Steri-strip question...

My surgery was 12/16 and they were still on when I went in for a postop visit on 1/5 and the doctor removed them. I wanted to do it myself because they itched, but he told me not to.

Steri-strip question...

I took mine off the day before my 2 week post-op appointment. I took it nice & slow. When I went to the Dr. the next day he said it was good that I removed them because if he would have taken them off anyway. Glad I did it, he probably would have just ripped them off lol I have not had any problems since removing them.

Steri-strip question...

Call Your Dr and ask when he wants them off. Most Dr's especially surgeons say leave any and all bandages alone and all you can do is add to the dressing (in event the dressing/steri strips come off before Dr wish to remove them). Another factor is if you are over weight. The bigger the belly in other words the longer it takes the incision to heal (d/t fat does not heal very well) and the longer the steri strips, sutures and staples stay in.
Now my GYN told me to remove them after my first shower Post Op (one week PO). He said it would make it easier to get them off. He also said the incision site will still be somewhat numb still from the cut. He was right! He had so many steri strips on it took an hour. Now the ones that were attached to the few hairs missed during pre op shaving... well like the last post said it only hurts a minute....LOL....OUCH!

Steri-strip question...

I agree with everyone, let them come off themself. I was finally able to take off mine at 4.5 weeks. I was very suprised to find a staple that was not taken out. I went to the Dr. office the next day and they removed it. I was terrified that my stomach would fall out if they caome off too early!

Steri-strip question...

I had my surgery Wed 1/12 and have a 6" horizontal bikini incision with about 30 steri-strips. My Dr. told me several times (so I'm sure I heard him correctly) to leave them on for 2 weeks, it was ok to let them fall off on their own before that BUT he wanted me to remove them if any are still left after the 2-week time frame.

He also told me not to rub the area and it was ok to get it wet in the shower. Carefully patting the area dry is fine but he recommended using a blow dryer on the low setting to be sure they were completely dry after bathing.

As always, if you are confused about any of your post-op care, you should call your Dr.! If you don't call the Drs office I would probably err on the side of caution and leave them alone until they fall off on their own.
