Help...anyone who has painful intercourse after given the okay to "do it"

Oh my.......
I had my 6 week checkup yesterday and was given the go ahead to resume "relations" Couldn't wait to get home.....
Anyhow, when it came time, what a shock .
I hadn't expected that kind of pain....felt like a virgin all over again. Needless to say my poor DH thought he was killing me and that was it for our night.

So before I freak out and call the DR has anyone else experienced painful intercourse? There was a slight smidge of blood afterward but nothing since. I have no pain today so I don't think any damage was done. The cervix was removed along with everything else. Done through a vertical incision.
Any thoughts would be most welcome.

Hi,

Yes, you can have painful intercourse even if the dr says you are ready. I was not ready when dr said okay. In fact , it was not comfortable for weeks.

It helps to go slow, use lots of lubrication and relax and not rush anything.

It can be tight in there and dry and with more practice it will get easier, at least in my case it did.

If you find the over the counter lubrications don't work, then the dr can perscribe something that will work better.

I am sorry you are having pain and hope things get better soon.

Tullik,
I also was ok'd to have "relations" at 6 weeks, but I was very scared, not sure what to expect, so we waited almost 7 weeks. I relayed my feeling afterwards the same as you, it felt like I was a virgin again. We used lots of KY Silkie but it still felt extremely tight and I was sore. Unfortunately I did experience shooting pains in my left side after it was all over with, but 2 tylenol took care of it. We haven't tried again since then, but I expect it will feel sore for a few more times, until we get back into a normal rythym again. Good luck to you and hope you feel better soon!

Help...anyone who has painful intercourse after given the okay to "do it"

Shelley,

I am 14 months post op and can tell you that I too had pain during and after intercourse. It was so bad that I called my doctor hysterical. When my doc was of no help, I went to someone else who told me I was loaded with granulation, but that was after almost a year of pain. Anyway, my advice to you is to try using lubricant and if that doesn't help then call your doctor, let him see if you have an underlying problem or if it is just going to take time. Be pursistant, get to the root of the problem before it gets to you. If it turns out to be granulation, let me tell you, the pain is worse than delivering a baby without any meds. ;-) Let me know how you make out.

Hugs,
Toni

I was oked at 5 wks. It was painful and tight the first time and a little better the second time. I also had some pain afterwards but not so bad the second time. I think we waited 1 1/2 wks in between. I am sure that it will get better with time.

You are not alone in this experience.

I think the majority do fine with intercourse. Now that the granulation is gone, it is better than ever. ;-)) The only thing is I still get spotting but am not sure if it is from having intercourse of just because; I'm gonna ask my new doc. the next time I see him.

What in the world is granulation???

I have had a couple of orgasms and they were okay, no pain, that is why I was so shocked when we tried intercourse.
I think we will try again this weekend and see if it is any better. That will put me at 7 weeks post op. I may give the DR a call, cause she didn't do an internal so maybe she will need to see me again.

Thanx for all the replies. I am less nervous now knowing that others have been through it too.

Hi Shelley:

I had my 6 week check up last week too, and was given the go-ahead. (My dr. did not do an internal at the 6 week either - no post-op internal)??

I have experienced pretty intense pain as well. I am hoping it's a lubrication issue. I was on lupron prior to surgery and experienced the same pain - I'm unable to wear contact lenses for any length of time now as well... after being problem free for 18 years. I believe it's the change in my system as a result of hormone levels. We're hoping a trip to the pharmacy resolves that!!
