Date finally set!

Well sisters, it's done now. I went to see the gyn and I am scheduled for surgery, which had been my plan all along! I had UFE Sept 2002 with great results for about 16 mths. Then return of a fibroid and all the accompanying joys.

Bottom line; anemia (8.4/30) and alot of menstrual pain. which by the way I never had before, and excessive bleeding again. Although I will say not like before the UFE. So imagine my surprise when the Dr. starts talking to me about Lupron (hormone therapy) to put me into menopause and "give us a chance to build up your blood before surgery" I guess he forgot that we discussed this 2 years ago and I am not a candidate for that because of a life long history of migraines. SO I had to remind him. He did say after examining me, I am only 10-12 week size and the fibroid isn't huge so I should be able to have a TVH, yeah. I told him no ovary removal!! He seemed surprised at that but I reminded him that women don't have our breasts removed "just in case we might get cancer" to which he responded "good point" Geez!! And he is a great guy and been in practice MANY years. I am sure he's heard this before but maybe not. Not all women are as well informed as hystersisters!!

So despite his concerns about the blood loss we are going ahead. I did tell him I would agree to a transfusion IF I go down below 7 (hgb).

Surgery scheduled 2/3/05. Not till 3PM which I wasn't thrilled about but... he said only 23 hours at the hopsital and hopefully back to work in 3 weeks. I am so thrilled about that. Although I did sign the consent and agree to an abdominal hyst. if needed!!

I will be at the hospital that I worked at for 15 years so hope fully will get good care. And the nurses who remember me will be CERTAIN to avoid me IF the care is less than ideal LOL.

Wish me well sisters,
felicita48

Best wishes!

I wish you all the best with your upcoming surgery - but you did not tell us the date! I wish we all had friends in the hospital - you will be truly well-taken care of!!! Just dream away of all the things you will be able to do when you wake up (and recover). I really is a dream come true. Take care.

Date finally set!

Hi, I'm happy that you got your date and can look forward to taking care of your problems. Good for you for asking that you keep your ovaries. I would have chosen to keep mine if it had been an option, and I was 54 at the time of my hyst.

Would you please go to your profile and add your surgery date? That way you will be included in the best wishes for the correct day.
