Sharp pain in left side

Hi everyone:

I am 3 1/2 weeks post-op LSH. Right after I woke up in recovery, I experienced very sharp pains in my left side, which is where they put the morcellator in. The liquid pain meds in the IV worked wonders. I kept ahead of the pain at home with Tylenol 3, but discontinued them when the weird dreams started and I noticed that they weren't working as well.

Right before my 3 weeks, the pain is back on my left side again, but now in the hip area. It feels like a knife is being pushed in and pulled out. Ibuprofen helps, but it's still sore afterwards. Is this normal?

I am sorry that you are having pain again. If it is bad, you need to make your doc aware, especially if it wasn't hurting before. What is a morcellator bythe way? yeah, I sometimes have very very bad nightmares with Codeine--

Sharp pain in left side

Hi Pebbles,
We had our surgeries on the same day.
I started having pain about a week ago. Mine is in the lower right side (where I believe my ovary would be) (IF I had them)
Anyway, mine feels like a hot burns for about 1-2 minutes and then turns to a dull throb for another couple minutes.
I seem to get it when I walk too much Syand too much or over do.
I finally went to the dr on Wed because I was so scared. They did a urine sample - neg. And and he checked for a hernia and hematoma in the bowel. Everything was ok. His final analysis was the muscles are mending and fusing together.
Hope this helps. It IS scary though.

Sharp pain in left side

Thanks Pat.
I go to my doctor for my 4 week check-up on Thursday, so I'll be sure to bring it up then.

It's not so bad of a pain, it's just like you described. And, it tends to happen when I overdo it also. Sometimes it's just easy to forget that all of this just happened about 4 weeks ago! I still have my ovaries, and it's really just in my hip area that I feel the pain.

Thanks again everyone for the responses! I appreciate it.

Sharp pain in left side

I had my 4 week post-op check-up today. I brought up the hip pain (now it's in my right hip also). My doctor checked these areas, still quite tender, and told me about the "elephant stirrups." These are huge stirrups they use in surgery to manipulate your legs into proper positioning. She said if I was awake while they were doing it, I would tell them to stop because they would be hurting me! She also said that I could have had some deep tissue bleeding which may have gravitated towards the hipbones, which would also cause pain. She also stated that the morcellator is a big machine that goes through 6 layers, dividing muscle too, and that could cause residual pain.

I feel great otherwise. I got the greenlight for everything, and I used that to my full advantage....hee hee. (Use your imagination here), but I'm still not vacuuming! I may never do that again.

Thanks again ladies!
