I had my surgery 9 days ago and everything went really well. The only hitch right now is that my bladder is not emptying enough, so I self-catherize. It's either caused by the trauma from the surgery, or the sling is tooooo tight. I'm hoping for the first scenerio. I have lower back pain pretty much all the time, but advil takes care of it. Walking is easy and I'm able to do more each day. I didn't know if this was the place to write about my experience. If someone directs me, I'll give more details about what I experienced and learned at the hospital.
Thanks.

self catheterization

I was having a bit of trouble emptying my bladder at first in the hospital & when the nurse told me I might need to be re-catheterized I started drinking so much water I about floated away I was able to urinate enough to make the dr & nurses happy. Being catheterized always gives me a uti so I can't even imagine having to do it myself - I feel pain just thinking about it. You are one brave lady - I know, you have no choice but I still admire your courage!

Before they removed my catheter in the hospital, they shot my bladder full of water. I tried and tried to go, sitting in the bathroom for 30 minutes at a time. No luck. By the time they put another catheter in, I was in so much pain I was crying. The pain was worse than any labor I had experienced. So, the catheter became my "friend" and I went home with it. When given the choice this week of another catheter or doing it myself, I quickly chose to try to help myself. It is nice to be free of the catheter and my kids can stand to look at me when I walk around the house. We have had many laughing sessions at the whole situation. My 13 year old and I decided all we could do was laugh at the picture of me with my "friend." Next year's Christmas card - no, don't think so. Laughter is a great thing.
