returning to work with open wound

hi
i had a SAH kept one ovary...i ended up with a wound infection and had to have part of it packed. i am scheduled to go back to work feb 16th and am a registered nurse in the community. its very close to healing, however i still need it packed as the wound is about 1-1 1/2 cm deep and the opening is very small maybe 1/2-1/4 cm around. i am worried about going back to work with a wound, although i feel great and pretty much back to normal. by then i will have been off work for 8 weeks. what do you think??
thanks.

I am a nurse, too. I would never return to work until my wound was fully healed!

Just think of all the germs to which you'll be exposing yourself, wearing away at your immune system and creating yet more work for your poor body, distracting it from all the healing needed after surgery. Besides, one would think that your bod will demand more rest to complete closure of that wound. You know that healing at the cellular level is best when at rest.

I would ask my doc to extend my FMLA until that closes. What does he/she think? Take care...........s, Deb
