Weight gain and Swelly Belly

Good Day everyone.

I am at post- op day 10. From what I had read yesterday I thought that the swelly belly and weight gain would go away.
I thought I read someone say the weight gain is because of all the fluids that are pumped into you during surgery and afterwards. And then I thought that the swelly belly was because of swelling due to the surgery and water retention.

I have had a couple of friends tell me they lost lots of weight after surgery and now I'm hearing sometimes it stays? I thought we would go down to normal after awhile...

I'm probably like everyone else... I fight with my weight all the time, but I had lost about 3 pounds before surgery. Then gained 8 pounds in the hospital...

I don't know what I weight now. I figure there was no use in weighing this soon after surgery. My stomach does seem to be going down somewhat.

Can I get some other input please.

Weight gain and Swelly Belly

I am ten weeks post op and still have swelly belly!!

From the posts I have read here, swelly bellies can last for months. I find mine is smaller first thing in the morning and by bedtime, I look six months pregnant. It really is frustrating. But something that I have to accept as the healing continues.

I gained about four pounds in the hospital. Today, I still can't believe that. With a uterus and large fibroid and cervix removed, you would have thought I lost some weight! I figure the weight gain was due to the IV fluids.

I lost those four pounds within the week being home. Not much appetite and lots of water helped. I have been up and down with those four pounds since.

You are so early in your recovery. This will require lots of time and patience. Hang in there...

Best wishes,

Weight gain and Swelly Belly

hi there-
I also had surgery 1/28/05. I lost 13lbs in hospital and another 4 since. So, 17 lbs total. BUT.....I LOOK like I have gained weight and I feel much worse. My stomach is so swollen above and below the incision (TAH/BSO). I have more pain on left side. But, it is extremely uncomfortable now to walk or sit for very long. I am only (barily) comfortable if I am laying down. I am getting really frustrated. I feel like I have gone in reverse with the healing process. I also just started with a vaginal discharge about the same time my belly started swelling so bad. Now my nurse friend is worried that I may have some fluid in there that will have to be drained or tapped. ugh. Good luck!
