oozing incision

I am 8 days post op. Had my drain removed 3 days ago. Also had steri-stip "stiches" removed at that time too. The skin around my horizontal incision is hard feeling and tender. I have a small shelf above the incision. I want to lift this shelf, but it hurts and I feel scared to force it. The incision area hurts and I want to be kind to it...bathing, lotion, etc. I took a mirror and looked at it tonight (now I wish I didn't) It is big and ugly and red. And to my horror, oozing and raw looking for about an inch and a half on the right side. I will be calling my MD in the morning...but am looking for some sort of comfort tonight. Any of the sisters experience this? Any thoughts will help ease my mind.
Thanks,
Kirby

I had this. My incicison was healing great except for about 1/2 ". She had me clean it with peroxide and within days it looked better and is healing. I am now 18 days post-op.

Speak to the doctor before doing anything.

incision

I had an infection on the site of the incision and the doc did a culture and I took antibiotics for 10 days and it all cleared up.

Try not to worry but get to the docs. I called him on a Sunday after my surgery and he didn't want me to wait until Monday-I did wait because it was a 2 1/2 hour ride each way and I didn't have a fever. But then he said I had to be at his office as soon as it opened. He was very concerned about the red and hot and oozing part of my description.

Here's to fast healing

Thank you so much for asking! How nice!

My MD says that my incision looks great. No infection, healing fine, etc. What a difference when you have a different point of comparison. To me, it just looks angry and red and gross. My MD is having me put on sterile gauze pads if it appears the incision is moist. No washing with soap, just rinsing with warm water when I shower.

Now I am in the clear of his office for the next 4 weeks.

Thanks,

great!

Kirby,
I am so glad everything is healing nicely. You know, the doctor's visit is worth it just for peace of mind. After all, how are you supposed to know what normal is if you have never seen an incision before!
