Still have sensitive Bladder...?

Hi everyone, Australian sister here.

I'm a 38yo mother of 3. I had my TAH on the 12- 1 -05. Still have my ovaries.
Previously I was experiencing alot of bladder bowel problems.
I had what felt like a mild bladder infection with the urge to urinate frequently and feeling like I was not emptying completely. Also had pressure feelings on bowel as well as bladder.
Well, doctor informed me that he found my uterus had adhered to my bladder at the ceasarian scar I had 18 years ago.
This explained all the bladder sensations I was having.
Also my uterus was the size of a 14 week pregnancy.
Anyway, I am just 4 weeks post op' now, and feeling so much better.
I did experience the 'pain in the right shoulder' biz that I read about somewhere on here too, probably from doing too much too soon.
My main concern is, I still feel as though my bladder is still over sensitive. Maybe I still need more time?
Also, my bowels have been behaving a little weird as well.
eg. (waking up in the middle of the night with pains needing to go).
Just wondering if anyone else may have experiences similar to mine and have any advice about these continuing bladder sensations.

This site is fabulous!

Thanks Karen.

Still have sensitive Bladder...?

I was lucky and didn't have any problems with my bladder either pre or post op. It did take my bowels a bit of time to get back to normal.

At 4 weeks post op, you're still pretty early in your recovery. Maybe you should call and talk to your dr about it. He/she may have some helpful suggestions for you.

Still have sensitive Bladder...?

I'm almost 4 weeks out from SAH and my bladder is very sensitive. I feel the urge to urinate very frequently, and go and only a tiny bit --a few milliliters--comes out. I have a doc appt on Tuesday and I'll ask him about it. I was wondering if I might have an infection. I think it's still just swelling, though.

I hope yours improves.

Still have sensitive Bladder...?

I had TAHBSO on Jan 18 and have been having the symptoms you described. Wednesday night it was very bad and I called my Dr Thur - she sent me to a lab to have a urine sample and called me back in the afternoon and said I have blood in my urine, protein and some other medical term I can't remember...she said it means I have an infection and called in a Rx for anti-biotics. I would call your doc and make she/he knows your symptoms because you don't want to leave an infection untreated...good luck!

Still have sensitive Bladder...?

Hi. I had my hyst in October to fix a prolapse problem. I was having a sensitive bladder with the prolapse. After surgery, my bladder went back to normal. Now, though, I'm experiencing the same problems with bladder sensitivity. I remember my doc saying that he didn't do a bladder repair - just rectocele - so I'm wondering if this should have been/needs to be done.

I too am looking for answers, and if I find any, I'll let you know.

Good luck!

Still have sensitive Bladder...?

i'm having the same problems, i have IC & IBS. i was thinking the surgery just aggravated those [email protected] my 4wk check up Tuesday they checked my urine for an infection. it was clean. my GYN assured me that these prblems are common after such an assult of that area. get cranberry juice w/o added vitamin C (hard to find). you could also try cranberry capsules w/o added C, you can find them in the vitamin section.
as for the bowels stay away from dairy, it makes a big difference.
i hope all else goes well.

Still have sensitive Bladder...?

hello, 3 weeks post op today! I too have an extremely sensitive bladder and have tried the phenasophrydin, turns urine bright orange, then was put on the detrol la. That didnt work either. I was told that due to the adhesions on the bladder and the work to remove them causes the bladder to be very sensitive. My problem isnt with frequent or burning, it just feels like it is going to fall out when I finish going, and I never really finish to avoid this problem. The pressure and sharp pains have concerned me, although the doctors dont seem as concerned due to the type of surgery and the work done on the bladder. I guess I will give it a bit more time and go from there. Either way, you are not alone, and all the meds dont neccessarily make any difference. It may just take time!
Good luck,

Still have sensitive Bladder...?

Thanks so much for all other replies.
I 'does' sound like "Bladder sensitivity" is quite common after hysterectomy.

I was sure I was the only one experiencing this, until now.
I had so many problems with my bladder pre-TAH I was beginning to think it may have been something that was going to continue.
But now it makes sense that what I'm feeling now will most likely settle with some more time. It's not as bad as it was pre-op'.

I was checked for infection by my doctor while I was still in hospital and he said my urine was clean, so it looks like it 'is' only bladder 'after effects'.
I have heard how wonderful Cranberry juice is and I have been trying it. I also read that 'Magnesium tablets' are good along with 'zinc'. I will try them out as well and let you know if I feel any improvement.
Like a lot of others have said, I too am still experiencing bowel upsets as well. I have read the vitamins I mentioned may help a lot with that too.
Keep you posted.
Karen. xx
