FM---before or after hyst.

Sorry I haven't been back in a while, our main computer locked up on us and I have the laptop hooked up now until we can get that sucker back up
Anyway....This is getting very interesting and when I have more time, i am going to check out those links.
When I had my GP check my hips, she pushed on them and it hurt so she was thinking bursitis...but this pain is actually lower than hips, it is where your butt cheek and thigh meet on the side----if that made any was hurting so bad last night even in the recliner i was up til was hurting worse than my pelvis! My gp told me she could give me steroid injections and I swear if she had been open last night, i would have gone---and I am a big wuss when it comes to those...I had my wrist done after i sprained it really bad and that injection was horrible. So you know it was hurting bad if I wanted the shot..LOL

One of the main sypmtoms of FMS is the 18 point pressure test. You can find out the pressure points on the internet as I am not sure of them all. basically if you can "pinch" these joints, you may have FMS. I flunked that test and I got diagnosed. FMS does not show up in a blood test in most cases as it is a severe form of muscle and joint pain. A trained professional such as a Rhuematologist will be able to tell just by your symptoms what is wrong. I went to my GP when I fist started not feeling well and they ran tests and xrays but couldn't diagnose anything. They said this was out of their relm and I was sent to an RA doc who diagnosed me immediately.

I was diagnosed with FMS a few years after my hysterectomy, btw. Almost a year ago, to be exact.

I could type volumes on this subject and if you are curious, you can click on my name and find out the hoops I have jumped through with this disorder. It is baffling to you, your family (you don't LOOK sick) and to the medical community. The more you arm yourself with knowledge, the faster you can control the pain and flares. Good luck and if you ever want to talk, you may PM me at any time. Take care,

As you know, I had the steroid injection in my SI joint (along with several trigger point injections) in Jan. I really don't think they did much help. But, everyone is different! Good luck on the 25th! I'll be thinking of you!

But don't they do those because of nerve pain? my pain covers my entire area of my pelvic area...not just onw place hurts more.

I can give them all day long, even looking really close---but i cant stand to be stuck..."lol"

Yes-I was diagnosed with fibromyalgia AFTER my hysterectomy. (Almost a year afterward) Also--I had a severe post-op infection from my surgery and needed additional surgery to resolve excessive adhesions and other problems-so I don't know if surgery could have triggered the fibro or if the infection could have. All I know is I never had the fibro before my hyst.

Prior to my hyst, I did have some endometriosis---also had endometrial hyperplasia with dysfunctional bleeding-hence the reason for my hyst.

I am under the care of a rheumatologist. I also have been undergoing a walking regimen. This has helped the effects of the fibromyalgia immensely.

premarin, hrt, and fibro

I was just diagnosed last week with IC and the Uro thinks that I may have Fibro also and wants me to go to a Rheumatologist. I am going to make an appt as quickly as I can. I have tons of the Fibro symptoms that have been going on since my hyst on 9/7/04 and the IC takes care of the bladder part of it but not the rest. I have had a full blood work panel and it showed nothing autoimmune like ms,lupus or ra.

I do have Osteoarthritis in my hips and Spondololythesis in my lower back and spurs on several discs.

MY Uro said that they see quite a few women who have IC and Fibro and she believes the systems in the body are all linked together and when one gets out of line it can cause another system to also.

Any way this is my question:
In my research on Fibromyalgia I came across something that I didn't know and I wanted to ask all the IC ladies if they knew of it.
There is a dr that wrote a book and he believes that it can be triggered by hormonal imbalance and he DOES NOT believe that you should take Premarin if you have Fibro because it frequently aggravates it because it is not natural to the body.

I have been on Premarin 0.9 for 4 months. I am wondering how many other women who have Fibro are on HRT and what are they taking. I will post this on HRT board also.

after hyst

I am new here.Biz from N.Z.

I find it very interesting that many of us have got Fibromyalgia after Hysterectomy.
especailly with removal of ovaries.

I am in terrible pain at moment but have also seen an endocronoliogist who has told me to go off Premarin also. She has put me on Climara patches and wants me to slowly increase these. She says that women who have their ovaries surgically removed need alot more estrogen and testosterone than a normal pre-menopausal woman. Basically the lack of estrogen overnight and testostorone causes a severe menopausal state and a whole heap of problems.

ONE MAIN ONE IS : PAIN PAIN PAIN especially in joints but also sensivitity to all pain in all parts of the body. Also weight gain (in my case 2 stone) Inabilty to sleep..blah , blah, blha

My pain is mainly in my feet, hands, knees, but also in old endo area...........

I am still in heaps of pain but I have been told it is early days..........will take at least 6 mnths.

I came to this site looki
I feel like such a guinea warned me about this. The pain is as bad as my endo pain or worse.
I came to this site looking for other pain sufferers after hysto and am quite astounded how we all got pain after.mine was a year.

Also severe fatigue.............I have been diagnosed with CFS/ FM but this new specialist thinks it could be lack of these hormones that is actually the cause.

But definately she was not pleased with Premarin. SHe says the body does not recognise as it cannot turn it into the required hormones. SHe said it has about 200 chemicals in it our bodies don't even recognise.

Please follow my progress (or lack of it) and any suggestions or tips would be greatly appreciated.

I am quite depressed also..............the pain is basically stopping me working and driving me crazy.

A really good book about this matter is

"Its my Ovaries STupid" written by an american Dr Elizabeth Lee Vilet.

FM---before or after hyst.

I have to say that I am so very much better mood-wise and cyclic issues since my RSO in October. I am not on any HRT due to endo (and yes I still have pain in old endo areas too.) I don't know if the pain is worse w/o the hormones or not, but I do know it horrible while I was on Lupron. Also, I had so many problems with the ovaries so, I don't think I will ever do HRT. I know we are all different and I do hope we all find what works for us!

FM---before or after hyst.

I was diagnosed with FMS approx 7 years ago (approx 2 1/2 years before I had my LAVH/BSO). I wanted to mention that even though I had not yet had the hyst., At the time of diagnosis, I was on Lupron, and had a surgery a few months prior. So, technically I was in 'pseudo' menopause...

When I went to see my Rheumy she said that it is possible the Lupron could have triggered the FMS, or it could have been brought on by the first surgery...It also runs in my family (Mum, Aunt and now my sister).

I am not taking any HRT (with the exception of Vagifem that is needed due to very dry/thin tissue). In my experience, my FMS pain was better while I was taking HRT...But the Endo pain increased. I have tried many different forms of HRT, but feel better emotionally without it (except for lack of desire, but that didn't improve much while on HRT). So, it is a big catch 22...FMS pain/flares decreases while on HRT (still had bad flares though)...But Endo pain increases. My docs think I may have ORS...This is another reason I went off of HRT.

My Rheumy warned me before I had the hyst., That my FMS pain would escalate when I lost my ovaries. At the time though, the Endo pain was so severe I opted for the surgery. Sadly, I still have Endo pain. Another thing I wanted to mention is abdominal pain is one of many syptoms of Fibro...

I will be seeing a new Gyn doc very soon who specializes in Bio-identical HRT. For some reason there aren't too many docs who specialize in this field where I live. I am mainly wanting to see him because I have heard success stories from others in getting back a bit of their sex drive. I hope and pray that this will happen...It will be interesting to hear his take on the FMS - hormone link.

Gentle S to all of my sisters suffering from FMS
