HELP! Prolapse Today 4? Wks Post Op

History: Had complete vaginal hysterectomy on January 11, bladder and rectal repairs, aden. fibroid tumors, endometriosis from bladder to ovaries...okay a bunch of stuff! Thought I was doing okay even though had a couple of UTIs since the surgery and saw the doctor this past Tuesday at about 4 wks post op. He said not I was still healing and no intercourse till come back in three weeks and no lifting over ten pounds till after then too. Please help with my SET BACK today and Graphic Questions.

Have been feeling lots better and tried to put some things away like sets of sheets in full dresser drawers today and thought I was okay. However, I started not to feel well and got very ill tempered and layed down on the couch. I THOUGHT some extra time on the couch would solve my pain. NOOOOO. It increased! I have abdominal pain (yes kind of like after surgery), and pelvic pain like I am prolapsing and a burning pain that spread down and inward of my upper legs, nearly to my knees. Thankfully, I saved a few Dilaudid and some 600 mg. Motrin, but still hurt. I took a Xanax for frustration and anxiety, but I have been on the couch since this afternoon with pillows under my knees and a heating pad on my abdomen.

I just took my pain meds again, but after feeling like everything was heavy and pressure in the vaginal area, I decided to get a mirror out and look. I am not a vain person, but because I had prolapse with a tilted uterus before my surgery and had urinary track irritation adn constipation, I checked myself out with a mirror shortly after surgery and I only had "a little something hanging down" between my labia and thought "he did good work". Tonight, I can tell I have dropped down more since I looked three weeks ago, plus I feel very HEAVY in my groin area and down my legs. I truly do think I have prolapsed again OR I have swelling....MORE is protruding between my labia and I feel like I have a super tampon stuck in my vagina. I just got off a powerful antibiotic last week...Levaquin. Been taking acidophulis herbs to avoid yeast and restore good bacteria. I am 50 and know I am not supposed to look like I did "down there" at 20, but should the bladder/rectal repairs have taken care of this? This is graphic girls, but I need to know what you all think???? Even though I am on Premarin 80 mg, could my hormones in my vaginal area be more depleted and I am just "sagging" more in the three weeks post op with vaginal irritation or does it sound like prolapse?

I am hoping I will get up in the morning and the swelling OR prolapse and pain will NOT be there, but I am concerned I may have done what we all fear of doing...ruining our doctor's good work and having to go through another surgery or try to live with the discomfort. I will call my doctor on Monday if I don't feel any better or tomorrow if it gets any worse. I know I shouldn't have straightend out my dresser drawers... But have any of you "did things before you realized it was too much" and experienced this bad pain again everywhere...and even down my inner legs with burning pain???

I feel like crying (because of the pain and thoughts of what if I truly have prolapsed hormones) I thought I was being careful. Please be truthful and frank with me...I just need to know if anyone can relate to any of this and share information or some support. I really need it tonight or anytime this weekend girls...worse than any time since my surgery..... please help if you can. ANY info or comments would be appreciated. I don't want to go to the emergency room this weekend unless it gets worse...Monday seems a long way off. SUMMARY QUESTIONS: Do you think I am describing a prolapse? After bladder and rectal repairs, should everything be tucked INSIDE my labia or is OUTSIDE the norm at age 50? I do not have a swelly belly, but only burning like pain abdominally, pelvic region, and down my groin area since my feeling good faked me into doing too much today or could it be I didn't do that much and sometimes everything just falls back down anyway? Thank you in advance for anyone who can take some time to help me! Sincerely, BT

HELP! Prolapse Today 4? Wks Post Op

Hi BT,

For heaven's sake! That doesn't sound good to me. I'm 56 this month and I have nothing hanging out!!! It's not normal! Because of your extreme pain, I'd guess that you need to be seen. Bladder and rectal repairs can fail. What was done with the vagina? How is it supported? Things just don't fall in and then out of place. No matter what it is..please call the on-call tomorrow as early as possible. If the pain increases tonight..call the doctor.

Please let us know how you are.

HELP! Prolapse Today 4? Wks Post Op

you really should make it to emergency now.
if your sergery has failed you do not wont it to adhear to the wrong places, if things have moved or stiches have given way healing can take place, in the wrong place and it may cause you to have a larger surgery, than you would need if you take care of it now.

(Even though i have not had my hysterectomy yet, i have suffered from the consiquences of ignoring pain after surgery and suffered infection, which lead to vomiting and bursting stiches that caused bad scaring ect)

swelling is a very good question. but any doubt should be taken care of immediatley, i mean unless you woke up this morning and everything was right and the problem seemed much better or gone.

could you need a longer course of antibiotics, do you have a fever, infection would cause swelling, better to be safe and go right away so the ER than be sorry, and suffer any longer. (you could get more pain meds while you are there too)
im always looking at the suppily of pain meds after surgery lol.
take care..

Prolapse 4 Wks Post Op Help!

Dear Marilyn, Thanks for your message. I just got up 10:00 a.m....slept really good with all of the pain and anxiety med. Awoke laying in bed feeling rested and not much pain, but went to urinate the first time and at the same time looked with a mirror and "felt" and definitely there is something protruding outside my vagina when I stand with my legs apart. I am nearly sure it is either my bladder or something....looks kinds like two "flappers" hanging below my labia...looks like before the surgery....maybe not as bad, but it is there..no question. I am wondering how my day will go. The last few weeks, I haven't had to "lay" a lot, but I wondering if the pressure will set me back to laying again.

Thankfully the pain is not bad this morning, but the mirror between my legs tells the story if I am not supposed to have anything below my labia. I cannot tell you how I feel inside...like I have wasted a surgery and all of this time trying to get well and now to have blown it. I have tried not to sound so discouraged to my husband because he knows I am worried and I don't want to worry him. I would call the doctor today, but with my pain subsided for the moment, I dont want to go to ER and I am thinking what could the doctor do at this point without doing surgery for prolapse all over again or prescribing pain med. till then. A

lso more questions, what if a person like me does have prolapse while recovering from a hysterectomy, do they do the surgery before everything heals this way or do they go in and do it soon????? I think I am going to post again this morning for more help because you were the only one who responded and there is a full page of new posts. Thanks for your help. Sincerely, BT

repairs

Awww, I feel for you

I had a rectocele repair and some vaginal reconstruction from tearing during childbirth when I had my hyster.

First of all, just take it easy, do not overdo anything. I still had tons of swelling-actually a large hard lump there until a couple of months after surgery. I was not healed either at 4 weeks and had to wait until almost 8 weeks for the OK for intercourse.

I also had hemorhoidds after surgery because of some hard stool that did some damage on the way out. And I also had some infections. All the docs said I was healing very nicely-and things looked great. Everything is nice and neatly tucked away right now

It could be prolapse-you never know, but have your doc check it out. Often even with prolapse-it is something people live with for years-the surgery is optional. So unless you are bleeding, or in severe pain or have a fever-it might not be an emergency. It would be worth calling the doc's service though-they have on call docs that might be able to help you out too.

Of course if you are terrified and in pain, you could go to the emergency room-
I just wanted you to know at 4 weeks post op with all those repairs, I had a lot of healing left to do. Things were not looking that good at that point.

HELP! Prolapse Today 4? Wks Post Op

The way I look at it, If you are that concerned, you need to call the on-call doc. That is what they are there for. He will either tell you to go to the ER or tell you to see the doc on Monday, but it is better to be safe than sorry in this case, so give the oncall doc a ring and let us know what happens.

Hi there BT,

I'm glad the pain eased up. I still agree with the others. A call at least is in order just to keep the doctor in the loop. Let us know how things proceed.
s to you,

Prolapse?

Thanks Mist for replying. I thought I only had one reply but then saw yours too. You make a good point about if the surgery has failed, then I don't want it to adhere to the wrong place, but my doctor and hospital is 100 miles away and I am thinking I would love to make it until Monday. Yes, I have a mental block about this and would really like to stick my head in the sand even though I know I should not. I am thinking...please let this wait until Monday and then call the doctor or go Monday morning. I don't have a fever and my pain is not pad, but I feel heavy "down there".
My first prolapse years before my surgery fell so gradually that I am not sure if this is it or if I just have set myself back a little, but I have two "flappers" protruding outside my labia, one more than the other more than before my surgery and I can't ignore that. To the very least, it is irritating. However, I have not resumed my bleeding, but I have a burning pain still down my legs in my groin area...the upper abdominal pain is better. I am interested in knowing if I am describing "real" prolapse after a complete vag. hyster with repairs or not? Also, I am wondering if I caused the prolapse myself or if it just can happen? Also, am I putting myself in danger if I can manage the pain until Monday...only two days away?...going to ER on the weekend 100 miles away feels traumatic to me.
I am going to try to post more online today and get as much info as I can and if you or others have more I need to know, then just let me have it....If I or my hyster sisters fully convince me I need to go this weekend, I will, but I really want to wait until Monday if I can...

Help! Describe Post Op Prolapse?

Dear Sisters, I posted last night after worried I have or in the process of post op prolapse at 4-5 wks. I am desperate for info. Has anyone out there actually done this?

My pain and troubles all started yesterday...please see last night's post for the details of my something hanging a bit beyond my labia and yesterday's severe pain after putting away some things in dresser drawers.

Question #1 Do any of you have "something, anything" protruding or hanging out of your vagine below your labia OR does your labia have everything neatly "tucked away"?

Questions #2 Describe the symptoms of pain and prolapse following surgery...can it be sudden or is it a gradual process? the groin and inside of leg burning pain...is that a syptom of prolapse?

Question #3 If I can manage the pain, do you think I am putting myself at risk to wait until Monday to drive myself 100 miles to Dr. in Nashville (or have someone drive me if I can't)? I am embarrassed to think I may have caused this, but I am wondering CAN PROLAPSE HAPPEN WITHOUT MY CAUSING IT?

I know I have too many questions and I already have some responses to my post last night, which I appreciate more than you all know. I was afraid no one would respond. I just cried when I saw I had FOUR...I am so grateful, but I am trying to gather as much info as I can before calling my doctor. I promise I will call, please girls, just tell me what you know and think. Sincerely, BT

HELP! Prolapse Today 4? Wks Post Op

I have never had surgery for a prolapse, but feel I need to post again. Please call your doc and ask him these questions. He might not make you go to the ER, it might be okay to wait until monday. But you don't want to put yourself at any unneccesary risk by waiting without asking.
I can't provide you with answers, but I can provide a strong shoulder and ears to listen.
Please let us know what the on-call doc says about your questions.
Sending prayers your way.
