Hi there , I am Hilary, all the way from Israel, aged 35 . I had my operation on the 9th January 2005. Yes in Israel, we work on Sunday just as if it was anyone day of the week.
Anyway I was home after 48 hrs and went to stay at my mum's house. I am divorced so two of my kids stayed with their dad and the little one was with my sister near by.. The pain was very bad for abour 10 days and of course once I felt better , .. I started doing the extra things about the house (stayed with my mum 7 days) .
Then I thought that I was clever and went back to work after 3 weeks big mistake. enev though its an office job not a good idea at all. and in the end I got an infection, and ended up opening my wound and got the works,... ozzing out etc not nice to say the least. So I am back at work but only 3 days a week and staying way from house work for another few days..
I also went a head and had sex after 4 weeks and it was not too bad for the first time , but now its sore again .. Any one know why ?? Dont want to tell the Doctor ..??
I have to go back for a check up in a few weeks
take care Hilary

Hi Hilary,

The initial recovery period from a hyst is generally accepted to be 6 weeks. You have had major surgery and your body needs time to heal from it. I'm sorry that you're learning the hard way how important it is to allow healing to take place.

Most times, Drs. do not clear us to resume sexual intercourse until the 6 week mark (sometimes longer) because of the risk of infection. Though you don't want to tell your Dr. about having had sex already, please go ahead and 'fess-up'; I'm sure he/she's heard it before. The important thing is to be sure that you have not caused any damage or developed an infection which might need medical treatment.

If at all possible, please try and take a little more time off from work. An office job often involves a lot of sitting, and sitting itself can be considered an activity because of the pressure it can place on the abdominal cavity. Try and get as much as you can.

Best wishes and s
