Another incisional question, how much bleeding is to much?

Yesterday when I came home from my CT scan the bandage that the wound clinic wanted to stay on was leaking so I had to take it off. When I called them on Monday they said if it started to leak just to take it off & use gauze or try to tape it on. Well the bandage was so saturated it was starting to smell, so off it went.

I was really suprised by how much it was bleeding. There just seemed to be a pool of blood that just keept coming from the bottom area of my incision. DH being gone I getting weak & lightheaded by looking at this I just took a bunch of gauze & placed it over the area. (2 really thick 4x4's folded over & I had bleed through them with in 3 hours.)

DH said this morning granted the total length looks a bit shorter of the incision, but width is wider & it is a lot deeper then it was when he cleaned it on Saturday. He's really freeked.

Needless to say he cleaned it this morning & put 4 4x4's & a over night pad over the area so I don't bleed though at work.

When I called the wound specialist on Monday to express my consern about the bleeding the nurse said the bleeding was good it ment healthy tissue.

Any thoughts....

Kim

Another incisional question, how much bleeding is to much?

Kim,

Some bleeding may be a good sign that healthy tissue is forming. Make sure you quantify how much you are bleeding. I am sure you have because you know how important detailed information can be.

I am so sorry you are going thru all of this.

You seem to be handling this like a champ. You may not feel like you are handling it well, but you are. This would be tough for anyone to deal with.

Take care and do keep us posted.

They are right in a sense that bleeding is good, but I do think you need to let them know exactly how much. That you are bleeding through 2 4x4s folded over in 3 hours. When is your next f/u appt? i am so sorry I forgot, this computer thing has been making me feel "out of the loop" so to speak, but now have a new dial up service and I AM BACK!!!! LOL

Another incisional question, how much bleeding is to much?

Guy's... I just don't know what it is... I am just plain misserble...

It seems that to add to the bleeding know we have added pus drainage. This morning the the middle of the bandage was covered with pus outlined with blood. Dh was not happy.

But the pus was not green, and the GP & wound specialist said to if pus was green.

My right sided of my abdomam has started to hurt inside. I don't know how to discribe the feeling other then when I had taken fertility drugs & my ovary over stimulated. It was really heavy feeling, it was hard to sit & walk. I was just one of those misserble feelings. The GYN i had at the time did not want to belive I was over stimulated cause normally when you are your keeled over in pain. When they did the ultra sound 2 weeks after complaining they were suprised to see my ovary the size of a foot ball. I feel funny inside kind of dizzy but yet not & my tung feels numb & tingly at times.

The medical dept at work called me today right before I left, she said she was so happy to get my records from my visit at the GP on friday & was so happy to hear I was doing better. I said I am? I feel like I have been just ran over by a semi and that's better? What is wrong w/this picture.

BTW... For thoose of you following my journal... about the call from my DH's insurance & the certified letter from my GYN asking if I have returned to work yet, I asked my work If i could have a copy of the records or informatin my GYN gave them relasing me to return to work, was advise sorry they can't release that info to me...

Another incisional question, how much bleeding is to much?

Kim,
i am so sorry honey that you are going through all this. I hate that this is happening to you. You are such a special person.
I don't see how your employer can deny you access to your medical records at work. I don't think that is right and I would take it up with someone higher than who you talked to, cause that is wrong. Those are your medical records and you have every right to see them.
i wish there was something I could do for you, but all I can do is to continue to be here for you.
I hope you can get some rest and feel better tonight.
Many hugs,

Another incisional question, how much bleeding is to much?

Kim -

Your doctor should be able to give you a copy of whatever s/he gave to your employer.

On your wound - I have no experience with badly healing incisions, but my baby needed several skin graphs to correct birth defects in his hands and one foot. Although I thought the dressings were truly awful, smelly and foul, I was told not to even loosen them for 2 full weeks. All sorts of fluids (mostly a clear to cloudyish snot looking semi-fluid tinged with blood) leaked and oozed. And no baths at all.

After the first two weeks, we were told to change the dressing every 4-5 days but no water and no peaking in between. Apparently, everytime the dressing comes off, if can pull the healing tissues apart.

Maybe your incision needs to be redressed by the nurse.

Another incisional question, how much bleeding is to much?

From the looks your profile, your incision opened up and they restitched you. What is the status of your wound? Is your wound open still? If it is still open, is it being packed so it can heal from the inside out?

Another incisional question, how much bleeding is to much?

My incision is still open about 2 inches long, 1 inch wide, .5 cm deep to 1 cm deep. Right know not packing... Doctors felt it was not needed anymore.

I have seen a wound specialist once, and I see them again next week Tuesday. They where having me put a strip of AquaCell Aq inside the incision and then they placed a special skin like bandage over the incision, which was to stay in place for 4-7 days, the bandage was self adhearent so it could be just pulled back, and we were to change the AquaCell Aq every 4 days.

Well I noticed about 2 days into this my bandage was filling up with blood/dranage fast & called to let them know they said just to keep it on until it filled up or leaked out the sided. Well the next day it leaked out the side so I had to put the other bandage on. Only sent me home w/2. That was Saturday, and monday I called them to let them know what happened & that I needed another bandage or two and they said when this one filled up just to use gauze. Well once I placed the gauze on all it wanted to do is bleed... and bleed.

So as of know we have been just cleaning it with saline solution, and puting the gauze 4x4 's over it. They said not to put the AquaCell Aq in because of the cost & asked me to return the rest of the open package.

The bleeding has slowed down over the past day or two & turned to more of of a pus drainage kind of like when ya have a sinus infection & ya blow your nose. So I guess my body is trying to expell all the bad out of it. The incision has gotten more painfull, since I only have choice of two pain relief options do to health issues tyeonl or vicodine, I have resulted in taking vicodine the past 36 hours to help with the pain. But I see the doctor in 3 1/2 days.
