incisional hernia

Well girls, I guess I have an incisional hernia from my incision from my hyst. Has anyone else had one. What is the recovery time? The dr. said I would have to go under and he would go about half way across the old incision and cut over about 3 or 5 inches more than the old incision, and I would go home with a drain. I kinda just blocked out when he said I had to go under again. Is the pain going to be as bad as the hyster. God I hope not. Just wondering if anyone has gone through this?

Hi (((d.t.))) I'm so sorry you're looking at another surgery

I do not have any personal experience with hernias, but I know that there are others who've gone through this before and who will, hopefully, come along soon to share some insight. In the meantime, you could do a search in our Resources Database, as there are several links to web sites dealing with this issue.

Regarding recovery time, your doctor would be your best source of information, since he/she is the only who knows exactly what procedure you'll undergo.

Sending tons of s your way and wishing you the best of luck with your upcoming surgery.

hernia

I will be having a CT scan on 5/111 to check for possible hernia over incision scar. My TAH was in Oct 2002. I was just wondering what you symptons are/were?

I also am dealing with an incisional hernia resulting from the TAH less than a year ago, and have to undergo surgery to repair. I am not happy about having to go under again but will have to accept it. Good luck.

incisional hernia

I didn't have an incisional hernia (although one was suspected) but my doctor explained that the repair is usually fairly straightforward and was most likely either a day surgery or at the most an overnight hospital stay.

Although the healing is easier than the hyst pain-wise, you may be put back on some lifting restrictions. If you have an outside-of-the-home job, however, you'll most likely only be out a few days, although you might be on light duty for a while if your job includes lifting. But every situation is different, and as (((Dany))) has said, your doc will be the best source of info about this.
