post-op pain and bleeding

Hi my name is Angel. I am 33 and having a abdominal hysterectomy on 3/15/05. I am curious about post- op bleeding and pain. I know that everyone is different but I am just trying to get a in-general idea. So if anyone can help me I would appreciate it. Thanks so much

post-op pain and bleeding

The incision pain is really the worst the first day, but you'll have a morphine drip, which pretty much helps you sleep through the pain. They also dont make you get up that day for a TAH, so you can just lie flat, and that doesn't hurt as much. Getting up the first couple of days is a little sore, but its almost more like muscle pain. I just kind of breath through it. Once you are up, move slowly and its not so bad to walk. I think that every day the pain diminishes, and I didn't use prescription pain medicine after the first day (Advil does wonders for me and it reduces swelling).

I had very little post op bleeding (with a TAH). Its more like just spotting. I had some slight spotting also at about 2 weeks, but the dr's office told me that was normal. Again, very small amount of bleeding.

post-op pain and bleeding

I only had some bleeding the very first day. After that, nothing. - not a drop (I had a TAH, so with cervix removed).

The pain wasn't too bad. A lot better than I had expected. I was on IV pain meds for 24 hours and then nothing except the odd Tylenol extra strength.

I was pleasantly surprised - my pains were like strong menstrual cramps, but no worse.

wishing you well!
