TLH news story

I don't know if any of you remember me, but back in October my TLH was filmed by our local news station, as my doc is the only one in this area who does them.

They aired the story tonight, and there is now a link available for the story and video.

If anyone wants the link, PM me thru the board, and I'll send it to you!

TLH- Total Laparoscopic Hysterectomy

In other words, they do it all laparoscopicly, and the organs are pulled thru the small incisions... Similar to a Laparoscopicly assisted vaginal hysterectomy (LAVH) except that they don't remove any thing thru the vaginal canal. They use a morator and remove all organs thru the incisions.

Hope this helps!

Kathi,

Are you saying they took your cervix out laparoscopically?

I just had a Lap Supracervical Hyst (LSH) on 1/28 and they used the morcellator to remove the uterus, but left he cervix.

Just confused -- are we talking about the same surgery perhaps?

Yes, my cervix was removed. My decision. I'd been thru heck and back with cervical problems, including CIN III and cervical laser ablation surgery in 99.

Basically same surgery, just one more part removed. (well, two with the ovaries)

Kathi,

That's pretty cool. Just blink for a minute and there's yet another new form of hysterectomy. Were you the first at your hospital? I don't think I've read another post on HysterSisters from anyone else who has had this.

If my Dr. had known and been trained in TLH I'm sure that's what he would have recommended instead of LSH. We disagree on the cervix issue. I really wanted to keep mine, he didn't think it was necessary. In the end he did what I wanted. I am very happy with my Dr. Being a good patient, I'll tell him about TLH, assuming he doesn't already know about it. It's great for those ladies who had risks or concerns about keeping their cervixes. Now they too can have a lesser invasive surgery.

Thanks.

Just to let everyone know, they have removed the video link.

They still have the link for the news story, just not the video.
