too much? or just enough?

I had my TVH three weeks and one day ago. Today I walked for 25 minutes outside. Well, I have to admit i was winded and had a backache later. But I was scolded first a little by my DH but more harshly by my mother, as only she can do.
Now keeping in mind prior to surgery, I worked out 3-5 times a week doing the elliptical, stairclimber and recumbent bike and some weights at my local fitness center. Naturally with my belly swollen, and laying around, i feel like a slug, so my walking makes me feel i am building my endurance.
I have a close friend who had TVH done in October, well she did not excercise prior to or after and now has gained like 20 pounds. I am focusing on eating healthy, i drink water, water and water. I dont want to diet at a time like this, but i dont want to continue to lay around especially on the days i feel pretty darn good. I should mention on three days after coming home from the castle (checked in monday, out on wednesday) i fell down some stairs, so i guess mom and DH are worried, but i have seen my doctor who really did tell me to take it easy....but how much is easy? how much is too much? I am not as good as some of you in that i do still depend on my pain pills Rx especially evenings. I do dishes and fold laundry, cook meals and i do read and watch tv alot...have had visits from friends (who stay way too long)...So listen, sister to sister? what is too much? when you feel pain after exertion? please help? Thanks so much

If you feel pain then definitely stop! Sounds like you were very fit prior to surgery and want to stay that way, but be careful. Think about all those internal sutures being tugged on everytime you move. Go to the ChecklistClick Me and it gives some great guidelines and what not to do.
