When will swelling go down?

I'm glad I read this thread. I'm only 5 days post op and look like I am 5 months pregnant. This is my 4th incision to the same area and I'm sure my abdominal wall has taken a beating over the years! I had 2 vertical C-Sects and when they removed my left ovary and tube in 1991, they cut along the scar and cut off the old scar, just as my doc did this time. I never had the swelly belly this bad, though. I'm confident that as soon as I get the clearance to exercise and walk long distances again, I can get some of it off. At least I hope so! Good luck everyone!

When will swelling go down?

MarianneInPa, this is very different than any of your other surgeries. You had an organ removed and have more internal stiches this time. Swelly belly is really different after a hyst.

Thanks for the warning and info, Carrie. I guess the swelly belly is better in the long run than the misery we all suffered before our hysts.

When will swelling go down?

You've gone through a lot, Carrie, from my reading your signature. I have had trouble sleeping since the hyst because I just can't get comfortable. I can't sleep on my back and am a side-sleeper, but it is just too difficult to sleep on my side just yet. I take 1 mg. of Ativan for night anxiety and have for a while now, but even that doesn't seem to help. Coughing and sneezing are rough. I swear - the first time I sneezed post-op, I had to look across the room to make sure my staples weren't stuck into the wall!

When will swelling go down?

MarianneInPa, you won't BELIEVE this! I have developed a cough! I think I caught a cold! Everything a cough, I feel like I am going to split in two!!
I am a side sleeper as well and now it pulls my incision! So I sleep on my back...and it is VERY uncomfortable, I am with you there! You know what does help a bit is putting a pillow on your side so your tummy rests on it. Have you had hot flushes or night sweats yet? I am getting thoser bad! If you ever want to IM and chew the fat so to speak my yahoo is IzCoCo as well.
Be blessed,
Carrie

When will swelling go down?

I will definitely give the pillow on the side a try tonight - I have got to get some zzzzzz's. Thanks again for the tips and info - I really appreciate it! Gosh - the last thing you need is a cold, Carrie. Are you taking anything yet for it? I haven't developed the night sweats or hot flashes yet, but I probably will since I don't have my ovaries anymore. I see my doc on Thursday to have the staples removed and to talk about HRT. I'll PM you my email addy - would love to chat! Hope you can get some good rest tonight.
