Fluid build up post TAH/BSO

I had my TAH/BSO in May of 2003. After what I considered to be a reasonable amount of time to recover (1 year), I was still having abdominal/pelvic pain. My Dr finally did an ultrasound and discovered that there is a small amount of fluid collected on the right hand side - exactly where the pain has been this whole time! Plus, I have had tremendous trouble getting my abs back in shape. Not just the actual shape, but the unbelievable amount of pain that comes for a week after doing ab exercises. Is this generally indicative of adhesions?
She suggested no possible cause or cure for this, (the fluid build up) so now I know what the problem is, but have no solution for it.
Has anyone experienced this and what do you advise?
Thanks so much!

In my book this screams for a 2nd opinion. The fluid must be coming from somewhere, right? I had fluid in my pelvis during a the last ultrasound but it was because a cyst had just ruptured and that was considered normal (normal amount and place all things considered). But, you don't have ovaries.

If I were you, I'd call and ask to speak to the doctor. I'd kindly but firmly state that I appreciate her being frank with me about not knowing the cause, but the fact remains that I am in pain and have fluid in that area. Would she be willilng to refer to a specialist who might fix this issue? Will she help or am I on my own?

I had great luck with this approach with my doc. Actually I wrote him a letter and said that although I don't know anyone who cares more about patients than he does, the fact remained that I was in pain and I did not like any the options he had given (BSO or Pain Management). He called me back, personally (I did not ask for that) and was quite supportive of my seeing a specialist and even wrote a letter for me to the specialist. It did not occur to him to refer me to the specialist. I had to ask.

Sometimes we must press the issue in order to get the type of care we need. Don't assume your doctor doesn't care just because this is outside of her scope of practice and it hasn't occured to her to refer you on. She may not understand how important it is to you to have an answer.

Gentle, healing s for you, dear.

Thank YOU!!! I will call her office tomorrow and get things going. All too often, I find that I keep my mouth shut when I should be voicing my issues and vice versa.
Thanks a million for your advice!

HI

Hi,
I also had a TAH/BSO in August of 03. My abdomin aches constantly. I saw an endo specialisy yesterday, and I don't believe it was EVER endo related, even before my hyst. He said I have myofascial abdominal wall syndrome at the sit-ups or ab exersice is the worst thing I can do!!! All this abdominal wall sydrome is a long fancy name for scar tissue (ie adhesions) in the wall of your stomach. SO my advice to you would be if you think you have adhesions, DON'T do ab exersices, as you can be causing more damage! I know I was going them, thinking I would strengthen my abdomin muscles, but it turns out I was putting more strain on an already inflammed tummy!!! I know this is very frustrating, and you don't know where to turn or who to trust, but I just don't want you to hurt yourself more by thinking you are doing a good thing!
