Severe pain

Hi. This is the first time of have come to the Bladder Matters forum. I had a TAH/BSO in Feb 2004 for endo and ovarian cysts. I am 36.

I have been pretty much complication free since the surgery and have felt better than I have in years, literally! I wear .05mg Climara patch every week.

On Friday evening I have some pretty intense pelvic pain (reminicent of the endo pain). It lasted for 15 minutes or so and then passed. I was out to dinner with hubby at time and did not mention it to him because I wanted to enjoy our time together (had an extra glass of wine to help the pain). Anyway, it passed and I went on with dinner, enjoyed my husband's "company" later that evening (with no pain or discomfort during).... Well, yesterday evening I was with my son at the video store when a pain so intense and in same area hit me so hard, I though I was going to pass out. I could barely breathe. It was as if someone was stabbing me in the pelvis. It seemed to radiate from the center of the region and radiate. IT came in waves as if spasms perhaps. All I can say was it was the worst pain I have ever been in and I have felt a lot of pain over years. I finally was able to call my husband and have him pick us up - I thought fo sure he should take me to hospital but it started retreating after about 20 minutes but still waved its way through my pelvis after taking 2 Darvon left over from last years surgery. It still aches in there this morning but is not spasming like last night.

I guess what I want to ask is does this sound like anything that would have to do with bladder, urethra, etc... I was able to urinate and really had no discomfort while voiding, etc.. I have had a history of cystitis, especially in late teens and early 20's. But this pain was not like cystitis pain and there was not the sense of urgency to void or lack thereof of urine, etc.

My fear is that this could be the endo back again but I am trying to explore other possibilities before I allow myself to go there....

I would appreciate any input.

Thanks!

Samantha

Severe pain

Hi!

I just want to share my experience with you just in case it helps. A few months before I had my LAVH-BSO 12-15-04. I had severe pain in my bladder and ended up in the emergency room and I guess I was having bladder spasms. I have been on Ditropan XL to help with the spasms. Now I am trying to deal with Intercystitial Cystitis. They have recently diagnosed me with that. I too had endometriosis. I believe that the hysterectomy fixed that problem but my bladder still has some major issues. The pain you had sure sounds like the pain I had when I had the bladder spasms. It hurts so bad.

Good Luck to you!

Severe pain

I am so sorry to hear that you are having these problems too. Your pain sounds exaclty like the pain I have been having since my surgery in July of 2004 and still continuing to have. I just posted a message about my pain not more than 30 min. ago. My pain comes and goes as well. It will hit me and when it does I feel like I am in labor. It hurts to even breathe. The pain will last from 10 min. to a day. I have went to the Dr. and he usually says it sounds like a bladder infection and my urine will have either a trace of blood in it or blood in it. And I am on double strength Bactrim. This seems to be routine. Now I take my at home test and call the Dr. and they will call me in the antibiotic. This doesn't seem to work for long. When I don't have the sharp intense pain, I still have some minor pain or discomfort. I don't have burning or stinging going to the bathroom, sometimes I will have lower back pain, but nothing major. No other symptoms. I am 34 and I never had problems until my hysterectomy. I too had endometriosis.

I have tried cystex, uristat, cranberry juice, cranberry tablets, ibuprofen and if any of them do work, it is only for a short period.

I am sorry I don't have any more to offer you but maybe we can help each other through this....

Severe pain

I, too, have had the severe bladder pain. Am checking my own situation with a uro/gyn now. Have you checked into the possibility of "interstitial cystitis"? The pain is unbelievable - as you described. There are some diet suggestions, self-help methods to help yourself out until you can get to a dr. who can help. One signal I've learned is the negative urine culture. Also, there's a diet that helps out ic people (if that's the problem). Example: avoid acidic foods (tomatoes, vinegar, alcohol, etc.) and spicey foodds.

I sure hope that you and everyone else, too! feels better fast. (Gee, Samantha, that must have been awful pain for you. Hope that you can find the reason for this soon.)
