I work at a summer camp-will I be ready to work?

Hi Sisters,
My DH and I manage a summer camp for children and youth. Our 11 weeks of summer camp begins May 30th. My TAH/BSO is the 29th of March. Doing the math, 6 weeks post-op puts me at May 10th. I am curious about how some of you think I will fair this summer. My DH and I will have 7 other staff but much of the 14-16 hour days falls on us. I am the recreation coordinator and do a lot of the ropes challenge course instructing which requires me to climb 30 foot poles and "hang-out" helping kids navigate the high cables. I also lifeguard and do a lot of the cooking in the camp kitchen including food prep and clean up.

Needless to say, I'm on my feet a lot during the day and have little time to rest. I am in great shape-I run 4 days a week on average and I strength train. I hope my current fitness level will help me have a speedy rather than lengthy recovery.

What do you ladies think? Thanks for your support.

I work at a summer camp-will I be ready to work?

Wow, I'm really impressed. I just thought that I stay active.

I think that you should discuss this with your dr and get his/her ideas and suggestions on what to expect. I think that you will probably be able to do at least part of what you usually do. You'll still be pretty early in your recovery and will likely tire easily and have to be able to stop and rest when you need to. Maybe have a backup for some of the more strenuous activities.

The thought of climbing 30 foot poles at 2 months post op gives me goose bumps. But I probably couldn't do that now either

Best wishes.

I work at a summer camp-will I be ready to work?

I am 6 wks TAH postop. My MD will release me for all activity at 8 wks. I also ran 5 days a week and weight lifted. I can't resume that until 8 wks. I am now power walking 1 hour most days. At 6 wks I feel so much better but you will get tired more than normal. By 7 pm I am really tired. I am back to work. The ropes course concerns me. You will feel a lot of pulling at that incision ( I forgot are you having a TAH or TVH?). TVH may not be an issue. I sometimes do light trotting and can really feel the pulling. So be careful and use your help. Take care.

I work at a summer camp-will I be ready to work?

my consultant told me that i will be fit to ride - and more importantly fall off my mountain bike at 4 weeks post op. I am having a subtotal on the 19th march. He said last year he did the same operation on a triathlete who resumed training at 3 weeks - and became 8th in the world 5 months after that!
