lymph nodes in armpits?

OK. This is a really stupid question, but I have noticed a tenderness under each arm in front, near the side of my breasts. Could this be associated w/ my tumor- lymph nodes doing something???

Don't laugh too loud at me!

lymph nodes in armpits?

Hi Mary Jo,

Don't worry, no one is laughing at you!

I'm certainly no expert but from what I read, I'd guess that their could be a chance that the swollen lymph nodes could be an indication of your tumor....since the job of the lymph nodes is to screen and flush 'bad stuff". But then again, they could also be swollen from any number of things....for instance, a friend had mono....for MONTHS after his diagnosis his lymph nodes remained swollen.

Check out this site http://www.breastcancer.org/tre_surg_whatlymph.html
to see how the lymph nodes in that area work.

And please, by all means, call your doc and ask them what the chance of it being relative is, and if there is any reason for concern.

XOXO

Not Laughing

Each time I have an exam, those lymphnodes are checked.
If they are bothering you I would certainly let the doctor know right away so he/she can decide if he/she wants you to come in.

no one would laugh

Mary Jo,
Thanks for your post -- it is timely for me because I was thinking of posting something similar.

Firstly, talk to your doctor about your concerns. They are valid even if for no other reason than the fact that you have been through enough already!

I have a lump under my arm which several doctors have agreed is assumed to be a lymph node. No one is able to tell me exactly why on earth it would be swelling. I had a mammogram and ultrasound which showed "no mass" so I should be happy but I'm just not convinced that the findings = no concern. I will see a breast specialist next week and I expect they will plan a biopsy.

I spoke with my gyn/onc about the lump/lymph node and asked if it was possible for the cancer that I had to have moved north. She told me that it would be very unlikely but not impossible. In short, she encouraged me to follow things through and treat it with caution.

I couldn't catch from your post whether or not you have already been diagnosed with cancer. I agree with K9 that the tenderness could be caused by many other things so try not to let your worry snowball too much....I should talk! Ha! K9, thanks for the web-site, it was very helpful for me too.

Good luck and keep us posted.
