Menstural cycle

I had a partial done Dec 8 2004 and I'm still finding out new things every month since I've had this surgery. One thing that's very puzzling , my body is still going through the monthly cycle so I still have all the things I had before, hot flashes cramps and bloatedness. I 've also had some light bleeding .The cramps are maily in the area where I had to have a ovary removed & go back in to surgery due to excessive bleeding. Is this all normal , I'm lost because my doctor's nurse is telling me to go and see my primary because it has to be another organ since I don't have a uterus any more. HELP!!!!!!

Menstural cycle

Hi 9livez,

Sounds like you had a SAH (Subtotal Abdominal Hysterectomy) or a LSH. I did not see your hyst type in your profile. If you had either surgery, they are a partial hysterectomy. Meaning the cervix is left after surgery.

If the one or both ovaries and the cervix is retained in post-op, there is a chance of a mini-period, even without a uterus. A mini-period is caused by extra endometrial tissue being left on the cervix during surgery.

I had my cervix cauterized to prevent a post-op mini-period. You might check on having your cervix catuerized in post-op if having a mini-period is bothersome to you. And, from what I have read, it sounds like it only requires a pantyliner.

Hope that helps.

Best wishes,

Menstural cycle

Thanks for the info, I had complictions during the procedure and almost lost my life but I hope all is well now. I was going in to have a vaginal Hyst and ended up having a very large amount of blood loss after the first surgery. So at least 24 hours late I was back in surgery for excessive bleeding and that's when the right ovary was removed. But i went in to have a check up done a few weeks ago and I thought the doctor told me that my cervix was removed. So how long does this mini period and allthe other syndromes last??????

Ask for copies of your records, and then possibly see another gynocologist for a second opinion. From the sounds of things, a gynocologist appears to be the best choice, just maybe not that one.

Menstural cycle

I had my cervix and uterus removed but both ovaries were left. My Dr told me that it was possible that I would still feel some cramping during ovulation and that PMS and mood swings would still be possible but not near as severe. Never did discuss mini period though. I will have to ask here at my two week check-up next week.
