stomach pain & nausea

I am 28 and had my TAH on 1/31/01. I started having bouts of nausea about a month ago. I didn't really think anything of it at first because it would come and go and wasn't too bad. I went to my PCP last Friday and she seemed to think it was just gastritis or stomach acid issues. She prescribed medication to help reduce stomach acid. By Friday night I was feeling much worse. My stomach was hurting so much! I ended up dry heaving but never actually threw up. I have been feeling horrible ever since and didn't even make it to work today. I've started on the BRAT diet and so far rice even hurts my stomach. The pain is right under my ribs on the left side and it radiates to my back on that same side. I put a call in to my doctor this morning, but haven't heard back from her yet. Has anyone else had this happen?

Hi (((Randi)))) I'm so sorry you're having such a hard time. Considering just how bad you're feeling, please, do give your doctor's office another call. Are you still taking the meds? Among other possibilities, you could be having an adverse reactions to those meds.

I'm sending tons of s your way. Please, do keep us posted.

stomach pain & nausea

Hi - Sorry to hear you are feeling so bad! My first thought - and for whatever reason, usually not the docs! - do you still have your gallbladder? The symptoms you are describing sound a lot like what my pain sounded like when I would have a "Gallbladder attack". I had gallstones, and after I would eat/drink certain things, my gallbladder would react and that would cause my pain. I almost felt like I was having a heart attack.

I don't know if this helps you or not, but I just thought I'd mention it! Good luck to you! I hope you are better soon!

Take care!

I still haven't heard back from my doctor after leaving two messages yesterday. I seem to feel much worse in the evening and have a hard time sleeping. I'm taking presciption strength Zantac and it's not helping. It's only been 4 days so maybe it just takes time to work? I'm not sure if it could be my gallbladder or not, because I thought that caused pain on the right side. I'll let you know what the doctor says when she calls.

(((Randi)))) I'm so sorry you're still having such a hard time. Please, if your doctor doesn't call back soon, please just show up in the office or go to the ER. Or, at least, call a generic Health Help Line: while it could very well be that the meds have not had a chance to work, persisting symptoms of this nature are not something you should ignore.

Sending tons of s your way. Please, do keep us posted.

stomach pain & nausea

Gall bladder attacks can hit you hard, fast, and make you think anything from "OMG Im having a heart attack!" to "What in the name of love did I do to my back!" It can sit in the right side only, the left and right sides, the left side only, back, front, nauseau, no nauseau. Eating one thing today may be fine, tomorrow it will make you feel like dying. I used to play with mine, until the doc told me to stop. I decided one night, that i was going to eat fries and gravy and get the better of it. That landed in the hospital for two days. Two days before, I got away with it....

Honey, no matter what it is, in my opinion, if your doc isnt answering your calls, get in to ER. Mine got to the point where it got infected, and I had to go on heavy duty antibiotics so I could even have the surgery. Please keep us posted.
hugs to you

stomach pain & nausea

My doctors office finally called me yesterday. They said it could take a week for the medication to start working. If I'm not better by tomorrow, they want me to have an abdominal ultrasound and some labwork done. I'm not dealing with the nausea anymore and my stomach doesn't hurt much at all anymore. The pain is more in my back now and I woke up with horrible diarhea last night. I'm thinking of calling them today and just have them schedule the tests already. I keep thinking gallbladder too or maybe a kidney infection or something. Thanks for all your help and input.

Hey Randi,

Sorry to learn you're feeling so rotten. Your pain could very well be your gallbladder or the duct system that sends the bile to your gall bladder. Even though your pain is on the opposite side, it could be "referred" pain. The pains we women have aren't always like the "textbook".

You need to pester your doc to run some labs on you; or, go to the ER where something will be done.

Take care of yourself,
