"Symptomless" Fibroids???

Hi All,
Well,I have symptoms, but no proof of fibroids !!I had two ultrasounds done 6/04 which showed two small fibroids and an ovarian cyst.I was in extreme pain on my lower right side and hip and even pain meds didn't get rid of it.My doctor told me that a hysterectomy was needed, but because of Endo. It was proven that I had Endo because it was seen and removed during a laparascopy in 11/03.He said that fibroids don't usually cause pain(yeah right)and that my pain was from the Endo.Well,of course I was upset over being told to have the hysto,so,I tryed a one-month shot of Lupron.Well,it did help the pelvic pain quite a bit,but caused so many other side effects. So, I didn't get anymore shots(was supposed to have 3 shots, once a month). Now,since November, the pain has gotten worse, especially at that time of the month.Sometimes I also have severe tailbone pain and can hardly sit at my desk !The other thing is the bloating and weight gain,I've never weighed this much in my life! You can see that the right lower abdomen is more extended than the left, but the whole thing is big. It's a little below my navel and then it extends way-out.The thing is ,I had two more ultrasounds in 1/05,and they were normal! No fibroids or cysts, but the doc feels I have adenomyosis.I asked for an MRI,but he said why bother with that expense??
I'm just so unsure about having the surgery, because wouldn't something show on the u/s?I'm still in alot of disomfort and feel sick all of the time.I also have very bad insomnia, nausea and lower back pain.If anyone would please comment on this,I would so appreciate it.Thank you.

Hi snowy!

I noticed that you have a hysterectomy date listed - March 13, yet it sounds like you haven't had a hyst at this point. If you haven't had surgery, or if your date has changed please go into your profile and update it.

As far as whether or not you should have surgery, have you had a second or third opinion? Different DR's have different points of view, and different experiences.

Symptoms of Fibroids - But No Proof?

As for something showing on the ultrasound -- I know from experience that they don't show everything. When I had my ultrasound, they said they could identify two fibroids, and they thought one was about 5 cm and one was 7 cm. They did caution me, however, that there was probably more there than what they could see because of the size of my uterus.

When I had my surgery three months later, it was discovered that I had over 30 fibroids and that none of them was bigger than 3.5 cm.

Unfortunately, they just can't know everything until you are actually in surgery.

Have you had a hysterscopy for a look-see to pinpoint the cause of your pain?

Sometimes it isn't the uterus at all....and a hysterectomy is performed, the recovery goes normally and then the pain returns. Later discovering it was something else causing the problems when a hyst could have been avoided.

I'd suggest getting more opinions!
