Sharp pains in lower right side - ?

It's exactly a week since my TAH....Could the sudden sharp pain in my lower right abdomen be gas? It doesn't matter if I'm standing, sitting or lying just really really hurts, and it's been going on for a couple of days --Thanks for any feedback.

Hi! Check out the posting on 2/8 "Dull achey pain in lower right side" (page 2 of Post-op Hyst Support). Some women said it was their stitches that caused the pain. In my case it was a bit more serious. Either way, I'd definitely let your dr know and just keep track of the pain. Are you able to control it with painkillers? Hopefully this posting is helpful to you. In the meantime, hang in there!

If you are doubled over, I would call the Dr. ASAP. However, most of us have experienced this sometime during the first 6 wks. post op. It is either on the left or right (mine was on the right). I contributed it to part of the healing process.
I will also add that if you do alot more than you should be doing, you will also get these pains. This is your bodies way of saying "slow down, and cut me a break", lol.
If they continue or get worse I would call the Dr. just to make sure. And it could very well be gas yet, since you are so early into your recovery. Try taking Gas-X and see if it helps and watch what you are eating, you may want to try blander foods for the next couple of days and see if that helps

Thanks for your responses. I've got an appointment for my follow up next week...and meanwhile, I'm going to take your advice and cool it a bit. I do see myself overdoing it when those moments come when I feel just fine. But, that's the trap, I guess. Again, thanks so much. This site is a blessing.
