It has been 3 years since my visit to the castle. I have a question and was wondering if this has happen to anyone else.
I have IBS-C. I was diagnose with that after I had a hysterectomy 3 years ago for precancer cells. I go once every 6 months for a check up to make sure the cells won't be coming back. They showed in the pap last year and I had a biopsy that showed nothing. I will be going this coming tuesday. Now the problem I'm having I got use to dealing with the constipation. Tried the Zelnorm and it made me sicker. Since January I have been having really bigger problems. I have been having at least 6 bowels movements within an hour or two just about every other day. In order to go though I discover a bulge on the right side of the private area. I push on it and it is a bowel. I have to strain and push on the bulge to get things going each time. I have a sharp stabbing pain it feels like in the rectom. I have numbness and tingle feelings from the rectom down to the right foot. Some mornings I have problems walking due to the numbness. It bothers me to sit or stand at times. I have been taking excedrin to relieve some of the pain. Does anyone have a clue what this might be? Or what kind of questions to ask the doctor tuesday? I want to be informed before I go in. I wasn't inform to much when I they discovered the precancer cells and told me that if I wait then within a month I would have had cancer. They were just going to take the ovaries just because even though they were healthy. Untill I found out at the last min before surgery to keep the ovaries and how important they were to the body. Things happen so fast then that I don't what that to happen again.
Could of my rectom fallen where the uterus was? Laying on a main nerve?
Thank you for any help.

I have no answers - sorry - but, I would tell your Dr./Surgeon (whomever you're seeing) exactly what happens, what you feel, what you have to do, etc. --- just like you've told us here in your
I think your post explains very well what your problem is, so use the same words, etc. with your Dr.
Keep us posted; hope things get better very soon!

Possible rectocele?

I am not a doctor . . . . but some of the symptoms you describe are similar to experiences I have had with constipation. I also have a rectocele, that I chose not to have repaired during my hysterectomy. I would ask your doctor to evaluate for this as it sure sounds like a rectocele by what you are describing. You might want to do a search of rectocele here in the search engine or on the internet and get more information. Good luck at your appt. Let us know what you find out. If you have any other questions feel free to pm me.

To answer simply----YEP! Sounds like you have a rectocele...I have one too and other sisters here also have even had them repaired. You probably didn't even have IBS-C...it was probably due to the rectocele---the stool staying in that prolapsed area. I will tell you what I do to prevent straining and having to splint the prolapse with my hand/fingers...it works for me and another sister tried it and it worked for her too. While you are sitting on the toilet, put your legs together and out in front of you...this should put enough pressure on the prolapse to help you go...I even lift my legs up in the air --this squeezes the butt cheeks and everything else together helping there too..Sorry TMI..lol...but give it a try. Also make sure that you drink lots of water, this prevents you from getting constipated in the first place. I also take stool softeners everyday..this helps a lot. Now I am not saying I don't get the flareups, I do, but if I didn't do these things, I would be miserable. DO make an appt with your doc...tell him what you think you might have and describe it to him...and don't forget to tell him about the numbness etc. It could be that when the rectum fills with stool and can't be released that it is pressing on a nerve, sure that could happen. But you do need to see your doc ASAP about this. Please keep us updated

Thank you ladies
I had a huge flare up early this morning. My butt checks felt like they were on fire! When I finally did go I tried your idea. It didn't work so I did what I have been doing and blanked out for a second. I go sooooo light headed it wasn't even funny!!!

Not passing out more like a blank out. It was like a shock to the system. I think if I didn't fight it that second I could have blacked out. I had a sharp pain in the rectom the rest of the day. A feeling like it was full, but my muscles felt like they were all strained out. Even my lower back. I just woke up this morning and like every morning something just doesn't feel right. Sometimes like now I have this wet feeling under the skin either in my right check butt or going down my leg.
I do have an appointment with my gyn tuesday for my annual pap, and 6 month precancer check up. I'm praying he can help me. I saw one of GP at the gyn office back in Jan. She told me I had a virus. Then I went back 2 weeks later and saw the other GP. She told me that the virus was in the spine but wanted me to see a GI specialist. A week later the first GP called me and told me not to see a GI specialist that it sounded more like nerve damage from the virus. She wants me to see the doctor. I knew I had this appointment coming up so I'm waiting to see him. Things just seem like they have gotten worse instead of better.

Hi Linda
I had a colonoscopy 3 1/2 months post op because of a bowel impaction and constipation issues. Nothing showed, so the gastro labeled me IBS too. The zelnorm didn't help me either and actually gave me more pain. I found a rectocele in Oct. I had a large bulge inside and also experienced those rectal pains. I had a rectocele and enterocele repair done in last part of Jan. Unfortunately I am now experiencing more constipation no matter how much veggies, fiber, liquids I use. I woke up this morning with terrible rectal pain on the left side. I also experienced back pain and I now have it too. My left leg is making popping noises when I walk and sometimes feels like it is pulling.
Please make a list so you won't forget to tell your dr. everything this week. It does sound like a rectocele, but may be other rectal complications going on too. You want to make sure everything is checked out. I am having a EMG and anal manometrey done Tuesday. It checks out the nerves and muscles in the rectal area. I am hoping one of the tests checks out the muscles for the entire pelvic floor. I am seeing my gyn Mon. because of vaginal fullness again and occasional pains shooting through my vagina.
Hang in there and remember there is solutions to these problems. I think it is terrible how quickly we are labeled with IBS!!!!

Thank you for all your understanding and support. I hope they find everything at the test tuesday. Please keep me inform.
I always felt there was something else not IBS going on. I could never get anyone to listen. I have moved from Iowa back to New York and seeing my old gyn. I'm hoping he can lead this into the right direction. It is so hard to talk to anyone about this. I know it must sound gross to people so I really don't talk about it. Lately it has become a big problem and I have been scared.
The zelnorm got me really sick. The doctor wanted me to wait out the side effects. So I tried one more week. No way I felt even sicker!! Couldn't even stand. So I took myself off of them and said the heck with the doctor.
How do they do a rectocele repair? I had the hysterectomy through the virgina so I never had to be open up.
