Day 9 after first chemo

and finally feeling a little bit like my old self! It has been a long week! I have to say that I am very, very tired -does this ever go away? I feel like my knees will give out and I often feel like I'm in a fog (really!) it feels like I'm floating somewhere in the sky!

My effects so far have been SEVERE constipation - at one point I thought I had an obstruction! I now know that I should prepare for this the night before chemo. I had bone/joint/muscle pain and loss of appetite, mettalic taste in mouth, and am ALWAYS tired especially after doing something like housework or walking. I've cut my hair to prepare for the hair loss but today my nose began bleeding. Has anyone else had this and what should I do (if anything) to prevent it? I've been having a sore throat (on/off) along with sinus congestion and got a viral eye infection (from my throat). The chemo nurse told me to call her on Monday if I'm not getting better because it's been dragging for a while (I have had 2 rounds of antibiotics this past month). I should also get myself to the hospital if I start to have a fever and not take any aspirin for it.

I only want to know how to get over this fatigue and is ther something I should be doing for my nosebleeds? Is it because I need iron or something?

Day 9 after first chemo

Hi Maxime,

good to hear from you! Yep..the brain fog we so lovingly refer to as "chemo brain' is normal. You may also be feeling some ickiness from the steroids. As for the nosebleeds, I"ve never heard of that being chemo related but there is a lot I dont know! I know that bleeding gums can be a side effect so maybe it's the same idea with the nose tissues.
I'm glad you are in contact with the nurses and doctors about this one.

fatigue: another very common side effect. I worked through it. I refused to really let it take over my body, but there were definetly times where I just had to give into it, crawl into bed with a warm blankie, turn off the lights, and rest. Just rest when you have to. Conversely, light excersize relieved some of that fatigue and along with it, stress. So walking, yoga, stretching excersizes are great. Check with your doctor before you start any excersize program, tho'. Fresh air is also a wonderful thing for your chemo brain

Best of luck to you, let us know what's going on with these nosebleeds.

xoxo

Day 9 after first chemo

((((Maxime)))))

K9 as given you some great info.

During my chemo, when I would blow my nose it would be a bloody type of discharge. Sorry for the graphics

I did lose all of my nostril hairs, so I figured it was due to this.
Probably a good question for your oncologist.

I'm glad you are starting to feel better....keep us posted

You gals are funny!

I checked my nose hairs -still there!

Actually I haven't lost any hair yet, I think it should start about day 15? I'm not too sure, but every morning I touch my head when I open my eyes! Sounds funny, but heah I need some fun in my life!

I think the nosebleeds are cause the blood vessels are finer in the nose? Well, it's not going to get me down -it's too sunny today!

Day 9 after first chemo

Hi Maxime
Was wondering how you're doing. All the bone, joint and muscle pains are par for the course I think. I was told I'd get a metallic taste but I'm glad to say I didn't, nor did I lose my appetite.
You'll know when you're going to lose your hair as the top of the head gets sore and painful to the touch a few days before.
When I went for my first dose of chemo I was advised that when I felt tired to rest, even if it was only an hour after getting up in the morning. I sometimes just lay down for about 20 mins and that seemed to do the trick until the next time. Make sure you get some fresh air at some time during the day.
Get on top of the constipation - Stool softeners worked for me and I'd start them the evening of the chemo and found I had to take them for up to a week.
Keep us posted and know that we are thinking of you

Maxime,

I don't know what is causing your nosebleeds, but my nose would bleed when my platelets got really low. I also bruise more easily when platelets are low. When do you go in for more bloodwork? So sorry to hear that you had such a rough week.

Hi Cricket,

My next blood test is Tuesday, April 19 -if all is well I will have my second treatment Thursday, April 21.

I have noticed that I bruise easily, get out of breath and dizzy if I do some minor movements -I'm hoping my platelets/blood counts won't be too low and cause me to have to postpone my treatment. I guess they have to go really low for that to happen...I'm sure I'll be OK.

Once again thanks to all you sisters for being there for me and making me feel "normal" during all this.
