soon LAVH--question on TVT & overactive bladder

I'm scheduled in June for a LAVH. I'm 53 and menopausal. I've had the "wonderful" urodynamic test for bladder control. I leak and have an overactive bladder. My leakage isn't THAT bad (considering some of the things I've read) and the doc says fix the plumbing while we're in there (TVT.) However, now I've heard that having a TVT can make an overactive bladder worse. Has anyone had any experience with this? If OA is worse, how much worse???
Thanks!

i'm a bit confused as to why your Dr told you that a TVT could possibly cause OA to be worse post-op---did your Dr give you a specific reason for this possibility?
The TVT only supports the urethra and doesnt touch/support the bladder; the only thing I could think of that might possibly cause OA to be worse would be the possibility of urine retention post-op; retaining urine would cause the patient to have the urge to urinate more often since the bladder isnt being totally emptied: maybe this is what your Dr is referring to?

I'm scheduled for the "test" next week, but Dr. is already planning on a sling procedure to support urethra because my leakage is severe and I'm only 44. I was also diagnosed with over active bladded and started on Detrol LA last week. [I've noticed a definite improvement]

My understanding from the urologist was that the two problems were different and not related to each other.

Hi;

I had a TVh, mesh and a TVT back in Nov 2004. I didn't have a severe leakage problem, but I did have the "Test". Boy, was that fun. Anyway, the sling has done it's job. I do have a spasms in upper right hip. I was told that it is from the sling and it will go away with time. Way after I healed, which for me was 3 months not the 6 weeks they tell you, I started walking and doing some slight stretching.
Again, this isn't to say this will happen to you. I would say that the bladder sling has definitely made my quality of life a lot better. Best of luck to you. Please keep us posted.
