green tea warning

Hi LIW, I just wanted to give you all a little warning about making sure you don't drink any green tea 2 weeks before surgery. I drank quite a bit before surgery (trying to fight off a cold) and I ended up bleeding alot in surgery. So if you are taking any herbs or such make sure you ask your Dr. if they are ok to take before surgery. Good luck to everyone and I hope your waiting goes by quickly!!!

green tea warning

Hi Michelle,

That is a good reminder. There is also a FYI thread at the top of this forum and in Pre-Op Articles that list some herbs you shouldn't take before surgery.

You can find the Pre-Op Article here and the FYI at the top of Pre-Op is here.

I hope you are feeling better and I pray that you have an uncomplicated and easy recovery!

green tea warning

I drink green tea all day, every day (it's a great source of antioxidants that can help with cancer prevention). My DRs are all aware of it and not once have I been told to stop drinking it before surgery, although they did tell me no Vitamin C, Vitamin E, aspirin or ibuprofen as well as echinacea and several other herbs.
Claims that high concentrations of vitamin K in green tea leaves can pose blood clotting problems, particularly in people taking anticoagulant medications for heart disease or other problems, have been discounted; the amount of vitamin K in an 8-ounce cup of brewed tea is negligible.

It's always best to ask your DR which vitamins, supplements and meds you need to stop before surgery.
