Hi! My Dr. wants to do a total Hys using robotic aided surgery. I can't have a TVH due to the size (18-20 weeks). This would be a laproscopic proceedure. Any others?

I'm sorry you are facing surgery, but I'm glad you have found! You will find a wealth of information and terrific support here!

I'm not sure what type of hysterectomy you are having. Are you having a LAVH (Laparoscopically Assisted Vaginal Hysterectomy) by any chance? There are a lot of women here who have had their hysterectomies that way. I'm sure someone will be along to share their experience with you. You can find a list of different types of hysterectomies and descriptions of each by clicking here.

You might want to do some reading while you're here. A good place to start is Checkpoints. You might want to also read through Pre-Op Articles. There is a lot information to help you prepare for your surgery, recovery, and beyond!

Best wishes!

Hi, Marshall...

I had a robotically assisted LSH (laparoscopic supracervical hyst). They removed my uterus through a small incision in my abdomen.

What kind of hyst are you having? You say that the doc cannot do an LAVH because of the size of your uterus. So does this mean that your doc would remove both your cervix and your uterus (total) laparoscopically?

I've heard of this procedure--apparently it's brand new. I haven't come across anyone who's had it on this site. (And I mean this procedure *without* the robot!)

I didn't have the best experience with the robot. Nothing went's just that I figured out too late that the doc *really* wanted to play with his new toy. As I'd had carcinoma in situ on my cervix a year before, I was not a candidate to keep my cervix, yet this is what he strongly suggested.

I ended up having it removed by a doc I trusted, vaginally, about 6 weeks ago. I was bleeding internally--from the cervix. I also had some endometriosis that the first doc didn't remove. In the meantime, the first doc is going around showing a video of this wonderful surgery he performed on me....

I would just caution you to make sure that you really trust this doc. I don't think that my first doc intentionally meant to harm me, but I think that his excitement about using the robot really clouded his judgment. He didn't do anything wrong technically--in fact it went very well--he just didn't choose the right surgery for my particular circumstances. I would definitely get and 2nd and 3rd opinions. And you might also want to find out how much experience your doc has with the robot. You *could* be one of the first patients he's performing this surgery on. This is new and very high tech stuff! Think about if you really want to be someone that this doc is honing his skills on. I'm not saying that this true in your situation, but it *does* happen!

Let us know when you are sure about what kind of procedure you are having. Feel free to PM me.
