Surgery Postponed

I had my pre-op on Monday for my surgery that was supposed to take place today. The incision in my belly button was still not healed after the laparoscopy 2 months ago. It has been draining constantly since the 3rd day after surgery and I took antibiotics about a month ago for infection.
I was sent to another surgeon today and he determined that I have granulated tissue and he cauterized it. (I think it may have been silver nitrate, but not sure. He used a wooden stick that had a chemical on the end of it.) It burned very bad but it wasn't unbearable. Now the incision is black, looks really bad, and is still draining. I have to go back next week to have it done one more time.
I was told to clean it once a day with peroxide and keep it covered. He says it is not infected, but it sure did look like it to me.
I forgot to ask about taking showers and he never mentioned anything about that. Does anyone know what precautions I should take now that I've had this done?
Thanks in advance for any advice.
I have no idea when my hyst will be rescheduled now.

I'm sorry that your surgery was posponed. I would sugest that you just keep it covered while you take a shower or maybe leave it uncovered (do not use soap in that area) and than put the peroxide on it. You could always call your doctor and ask them. Hoping that it heals quickly. Good luck. Kay

I'm sorry that you're having those extra problems. I'm sure that it is disappointing to have your surgery psotponed. But, it's very important to be in the best health possible for surgery.

When I had granulation, it was silver nitrate that my dr used to treat it. Mine had the black look too, my dr said that it was from the cauterization ( old blood and tissue ) and was normal.

I also think that calling your doctor and asking about showers is a good idea.

Best wishes, I hope that you heal well and can get rescheduled soon.

Called the dr about whether or not this incision (in my belly button) could get wet in the shower......I was told to try to keep it dry. I've learned that it is almost impossible to wash the top half of your body without water running down your stomach. Needless to say, I didn't do too well with that this morning.

Just to give all of you a good laugh, I'll share what I tried......I had my husband wrap Saran Wrap around my mid section and taped the top and bottom. It didn't work, but the Saran Wrap was green so it was quite a site.:lol
Anyway, it still looks pretty bad today. Since this is my first experience with silver nitrate I really didn't know what to expect, but I sure am learning.
