Length Of Hospital Stay?

I am scheduled to have my hysterectomy on May 17th. They will attempt to do a LAVH but my doctor has already warned me that it might turn into a TAH. We are leaving one ovary. My question is - - if an abdominal incision will have to be made - how long of a hospital stay is expected?

Length Of Hospital Stay?

I believe that depends on how you are feeling and whether you pee/BM/pass gas etc. I too went in expecting a LAVH and left with a TAH horizontal incision. I went in at 5:30 am on Wed and left Friday evening. I could have stayed another night but decided I could sleep as well at home since my catheter was out and didn't need the IV and pump.

Of course we are all different, but my DR said that my surgery would be on Tues and I could expect to be out Thurs. Of course you have to pass those tests to prove your body is back to functioning correctly. I will be have a TAH, leaving ovaries, May 3rd. Best Wishes!

It depends

I know that I went in for a TAH/BSO and it took me 5 days before I got out of there. I had some problems with morphine. So it depends on your body and how it is taking to the shock of the surgery. Just be prepared for the worse, longer stays. If that does not happen then great. If longer stay is needed then you are prepared for it. Good luck!

Length Of Hospital Stay?

I had a TAH early on a Monday morning and was to go home Tuesday evening...but due to having major pain with gas and bowels trying to move he kept me until the next day. It will just depend on your circumstances on how long you will be in the hospital. Goodluck!

Length Of Hospital Stay?

I had a TAH on January 5th - left one ovary......I left the next morning right after the Doc came to check on me. They told me I had to pass gas before I could leave. I thought this was rather funny and asked the nurse how she would actually know that I passed gas....she looked at me with a confused look....like she didn't know how to answer my question.......I proceeded to tell her that I would push the intercom button and fart so they could hear it....

Needless to say, I went home the morning after surgery...the ride was terrible, but I survived. I did okay until I had to go to the bathroom that night. I couldn't get out of the bed. I tried for so long, I was actually sweating from the strain. I am a single mom and my daughter was sleeping. I called her on her cell phone from the house phone, but my teenager will sleep through a hurricane and I gave up on trying to wake her up. It took me over an hour of trying before I realized that I had to ROLL out of bed instead of trying to sit straight up....

Everyone is different. My family and friends thought I was crazy for going home the next day, because I could be waited on and helped at the hospital. I am a "homebody" and cannot sleep well in a different environment and therefore made the stubborn decision to go home.

Basically, your body will determine how long you have to stay...
Don't do what I did.....Make sure you are recuperated enough to be able to at least halfway tolerate the pain and get up and down without too much help. I don't regret what I did, but I know if I had stayed, it probably would not have been as hard on me those first three days..........ONE MORE THING.....AFTER YOU GET HOME, DO NOT TAKE A SHOWER WITHOUT SOMEONE THERE TO HELP, IF YOU NEED IT - The shower thing is pretty rough at first.

I am over three months out and I don't even feel like I had surgery...having no periods is really a beautiful thing!!!

Good luck to you.......you will sail through this and it will be over before you know it.

Lots of s!!

Length Of Hospital Stay?

I am preparing for a TAH/BSO on the 17th of May too .....

They tend to keep ppl in for 7 - 10 days over here (UK)... can't believe they kick ppl out so soon .... lol

But I suppose it all depends on how you react to surgery and they can only give you a guide time .....

Thinking of you ..... keep calm .... the waiting is the worst

I don't want to stay in the hosp. too long either. I am like Leigh35. I am a homebody and I can't sleep well in other places. We even went for a weekend at a resort and came home after the first night because I just couldn't be comfortable and sleep in a "strange place". I don't want to over due it though and end up in worse shape if I go home too early. I've never spent more than 1 night away from my 8 year old son, so that is really the biggest thing for me right now. Plus, I'm still very nervous. I HATE anesthesia!

Ha Ha

I really had a good LOL over Leigh35's comment about farting into the intercom....Ha Ha

How do they know if you pass gas anyway? Makes me wonder.
