Libido issues

I've been using compounded testosterone cream for over two months now and although it has helped with my energy level it has done nothing to help my libido. My estrogen and progesterone dosages seem right and I thought that the test. cream would be the answer. Has anyone else been unsuccessful with libido issues after using the test. cream? Did you find something else that helped? I'm at a loss and have about given up on ever having my libido back. I was perimenopausal before my surgery (although I didn't realize it since I thought I was too young) and haven't had a desire for years. Any suggestions from anyone who has been there and found a solution?

What doseage testosterone are you using and how often? Maybe the doseage is not quite right. I think 2 months is a reasonable amount of time to expect to see some improvement. Did you have your levels checked before adding in the testosterone?

There's a good article on the libido here: Sexual Desire/Sexual Response

Kim,
I started out on 5%, then after being told that was high I went to 2%. When I didn't see any improvement with the 2%, I went back to the 5% using about 1/8 teaspoon per day. I haven't seen ANY improvement with the libido issues at all. I've never had my levels checked and my doctor doesn't think it is necessary..he wants to treat the symptoms. I'm about to give up.

Hi Keeperofhome,

If I've figured it out right you're taking:

5% cream = 50mg/ml

1/8 tsp = .625ml (1 tsp = 5 ml)

.625ml x 50mg/ml = 31 mg

That's what most people here call 3%. There are some who take over 5%.

Estrogen and progestrin work against testosterone as estrogen ties up testosterone and progestrin inhibits testosterone. Perhaps you're to high on those and it's not allowing the testosterone to do it's stuff? Testosterone also aromatizes into estrogen (gives you more of it) so you often don't need to take as much estrogen. Testosterone also tends to be the "feel good" hormone for some and they don't need the other hormones as much.

It's all a balancing act and unfortunately, you have to watch for the effects and figure out what feels good for you.

Don't get discouraged!

Libido issues

Jackie,
I have a suggestion, and it's taken me 5 years of trial and error to finally find an estrogen balance that works. I had libido difficulties even before my total hysterectomy, but I have landed on what works wonders for my total hormone needs. Along with my Estradot 75 patch, I use AndroGel 1% (each packet contains 2.5 g of gel), and I use 1/2 a packet a day. I was told rub it on my inner thighs before I go to bed each night. It took about 2 - 3 months but now we are in high gear. I wouldn't give it up if I had to! It is a little pricey, but I gladly pay it each month. I feel great and am very happy with the results.

The reason the Dr suggested it was because my estrogen levels were all wrong and I felt awful (red face, rash, headaches, etc.). I now take a lower dose of estrogen since beginning AndroGel because the Dr. said testosterone helps in estrogen absorption and effectiveness. I am from Canada, and am unsure if AndroGel is available in the US, but I would check it out. I hope that is helpful to you! Good luck and let us know!
