anyone had a cone biopsy ??

I have a cone biopsy scheduled for 5/11 and although I've read what they do, I'm wondering if anyone else has had one and what it's like, so I can prepare myself.

I read though the LEEP procedure, but I don't think that the cone procedure is the same.

Anyone have input that will help me prepare? Thanks all !

anyone had a cone biopsy ??

The cold knife cone biopsy is fairly similar to the LEEP, but the CKC uses a scalpel, whereas the LEEP uses an electrified wire or laser. The cone is generally considered to remove a bigger sample, so some docs will use it when they think there is more extensive involvement (that doesn't mean this is a bad thing--perhaps just being more cautious). The CKC is done outpatient with sedation or anesthesia. The LEEP is sometimes done in the doctor's office. There is more discharge/bleeding following a cone than there is with a LEEP, and recovery may be slightly longer. I had mine done on a Wednesday afternoon, took off Thursday and Friday. and was ready to go again on Monday. My LEEP was done on a Friday, but my doc said that if it had been done on another day that I could have returned to work the next day (had I not had an additional procedure done at the same time).

Good luck! I hope all goes well and that your biopsy comes back showing that they removed all of the abnormal cells! Please come back and let us know how it goes.
