10 months post op and vomiting. Advice?

Well, the hysterectomy was the best thing I ever did - no more flooding, I can go out of the house - heck, I've even got myself a job!!

But ....... ever since the op I've had intermittent pain in my lower right abdomen, with occasional bouts of nausea, that then became daily and now!! Sudden vomiting, sometimes with as little as 20 seconds notice! It can be first thing in the morning, last thing at night, when I've eaten, when I haven't. And the pain is pretty much constant now, although it's by no means unbearable.

Been having alternating diarrhoea and constipation and never feel like my bowels are really empty - they're definitely not right.

On the plus side, I've lost LOADS of weight, but even I think I'm losing too much now!

I've had three stool samples analysed - nothing. Two lots of blood tests - nothing.

Now waiting for a specialist gastro appointment, which could take up to 9 weeks.

Any advice anyone? Anyone had anything similar?

I had my hyst last June, left partial cervix and both ovaries (which are now failing - blood tests confirm I'm menopausal, but that doesn't worry me at all)

Help!!!

10 months post op and vomiting. Advice?

Hi Madmaxlady

I’m sorry you aren’t feeling well. It must be terribly frustrating for you not knowing what is causing your frequent vomiting episodes and right lower abdominal pain. I saw in one of your older posts that you’ve had trouble with IBS in the past. Sounds like you do need to establish yourself with a good GI doctor. Nine weeks will feel like a long time to wait for your consult when you are vomiting daily. Are there any diagnostic procedures (CT, MRI, or GI studies, etc.) that your current doctor could have you doing while you wait? Are they giving you something to help you control your vomiting? Sometimes a suppository type med has a better chance of staying in.

While you wait it may be a good idea to journal or chart each episode, the events leading up to it, and anything you take into your system, including foods, medicines, supplements, vitamins, herbs, etc. Maybe you’ll see a pattern develop – or confirm that the episodes are random, etc.

I had some crazy vomiting that I finally traced back to the multivitamin I was taking. Felt great when I stopped them. I tried a different brand with different ingredients a year later and darned if it didn’t happen again. I eat balanced meals, so giving up for now. In the future I’ll re-introduce my vitamins one type at a time, so I can find what’s in there that’s bothering me. I wish yours could be so simple to solve.

I sure hope your doctor can find what’s troubling you and get you feeling better soon.

Best wishes & s,
Beth

I can relate to this, too. I had abdominal pain and nausea (although no vomitting) for months before I decided to finally check it out. I don't know if it was fear of finding something wrong with my ovary (which is what I suspected) keeping me from the doctor, but that wasn't the problem.

I am suffering from a hematoma, however, which is the source of the pain and nausea. I have no idea what your issue is -- all I can tell you is that it's important that you continue to have things investigated until you find out the source of your ills.

to you and best of luck.

Thanks MJ and Beth. Much appreciate the replies.

I've been monitoring it for a while now, and it's definitely not related to anything I'm putting in my system. My own suspicion is that it's adhesions causing a partial blockage from time to time. It feels like a tugging in my right side, which slowly seems to be getting worse, although I've had far, far worse pain in my life.

I'm hoping to speed up the appt with the gastro specialist, before I completely waste away! As for arranging an MRI scan - in my part of the world there's a 49 week waiting list!!!

Ah well, should be pretty darned skinny by then!
