Pre op today- down hill stretch.

Hello all,
I had my pre op today and the doc said that he will be doing a TLVH instead of a TLAH. Not sure if I like that idea, but what ever is best. For all you ladies preparing- don't be afraid to take a written list with ALL your questions! My dr was wonderful about answering everything! My cold feels better today so I'm still a go for Monday.
I'm dreading the bowel prep- just an enema night before and morning of. Has any of you been through this? Can you do it alone or did you need help? I also have to do a betadine douche at night before and the morning of. Ugh........ Good thing it'll be over soon.
Think I'm going to have a glass of wine before bed- just frazzled.

Night all and Blessings,
Leslie

Pre op today- down hill stretch.

Hi Leslie!

I know all this surgery prep stuff is yucky...but, if I lived through it, so can you!

I didn't have an enema prep; I had to drink the icky stuff instead that produced nasty diarrhea. I have done a Betadine douche in the past -- they're not a big deal and don't hurt or anything.

Hang in there! Soon, you will be posting from "the other side!"

Many s and Best Wishes,

Pre op today- down hill stretch.

I had to do the enema and douche the night before surgery. It is something that you can do yourself. Never having done either before it was as much fun as I imagined it would be. I think I was actually supposed to douche twice, but because I got confused taking the cap off the bottle - don't ask - I only did it once which was plenty.

good to know

Thanks for letting me know that it can be a 1 person job as hubby was not to interested in helping and I really didn't want to have to have help.
I can't believe that its almost time- Looking forward to the other side! And I'll watch out for the caps on those stupid douche bottles
Thank you sooo much for your well wishing- it is wonderful to know that you're not alone

I'm right there with ya!

I had my preop with the dr Thursday...all he said about pre-op was the no eating or drinking after midnight. I was so excited he didn't say anything about a bowel prep I almost jumped, but I didn't mention it because I didn't want to put ideas in his head.

Well, I had my preop at the hospital today (well, yesterday, I'm up waaaay too late because I can't sleep) and what do I find out? Yep, bowel prep. I saw that slip of paper just as she was reaching for the big white bag that contained my goodies. Luckily though, I don't have to drink anything. That was my biggest thing I was worried about because I always gag so much whenever I have to drink something for medical reasons...I couldn't imagine trying to down a gallon of that crap!

So, all I have to do is the no eating and drinking thing the night before, and the morning of surgery I have to do one enema, betadine douche and betadine shower/wash thing. I guess I can handle that. My question (I might post this somewhere else but I'll start here), when you do the enema, is it pretty much over with right away, or is it something that keeps you running to the bathroom for a while? I'm trying to figure out how much time I have to give myself for the enema so I have enough time for the shower and douche before leaving for the castle. Any help or advice will be greatly appreciated.

Also, do you really have to get in the position it shows on the box for the enema? That just scares me a bit. I'll be alone with no help (which is what I prefer), but I just can't picture myself doing that. It just doesn't seem natural.

let me guess the picture

I know which picture you are talking about- not sure how that's going to work. I have to do 2 enemas so I'll let you know which position works best for 1 person.
The rest of it doesn't sound too bad- I just know that the soap can really dry your skin out- and I'm a lotion fanatic so that might take me a bit to remember not to put lotion over my tummy when I'm done washing!

Good luck and heres to better days!

Yes, you need to get into that position. My prep and shower took a couple of hours. I didn't need to keep running to the bathroom afterward.

I didn't have a picture to show me how to do the enema but some nice sister in here helped me out. I laid on my side. I didn't need help and I wouldn't have wanted to anyway. I tied a rope to the bag so I could raise it and lower it as needed. It pretty much worked right away and I didn't need to keep running to the bathroom. I did have to go in the morning while I was already in the pre-op area.

I spent more time worrying about it than necessary. It wasn't that bad and I'm thinking now that it is probably a whole lot better and easier than having to drink a gallon of nasty stuff.
