I feel worse today than 1 week ago!

Hi Sisters,

I had a TAH/BSO on 2-2-01 and today I feel worse than I did a week ago. I've been very careful not to over-do anything, no lifting, no nothing, but I have pains in my belly that weren't there before. Everything feels really tight, and my lower back hurts no matter if I'm sitting up or laying down.

Any ideas?

I feel worse today than 1 week ago!

Debi - I had some additional twinges and tightening between 3 - 5 weeks...I figured it was stitches dissovling because I was very careful not to over do it. My back started hurting around that time also and I used heating pad (don't fall asleep with it on)and took ibuprofen..to help aching muscles...which could of been caused by inactivity...or posture. I also placed a pillow under my knees while propped up in bed to re-position myself. This seemed to help too. Good luck and if continues...give your dr. a call...that might help ease your mind.

Hi DebiJo,

Based on my experience, everything you're feeling is normal. Try not to worry. This is just the healing process. The back pain is normal too. I remember really bad back pain. I had all kinds of pains in all kinds of places during different periods of healing. I'm at 10 weeks now and I can tell you it will get better. You've got a little ways to go yet. Just be patient and continue to rest the way you have been.

Hugs to you,

Hi DebiJo,

The sisters are right...at about this time, not only are stitches dissolving, leaving weakened tissues to take over, but anesthesia has been leaving your body since the surgery, so you are now "feeling" your surgery more. This is very common.

As Dot said, you can always call your Dr. for peace of mind, but in the meantime, take this as a cue from your body that you still need to take it easy for awhile yet!

The initial recovery period is 6-8 weeks...total healing takes from 6 months to a year. So take it easy now, and your recovery will be smoother in the long run!

My very best to you...

I feel worse today than 1 week ago!

Hang in there!!! Weeks 3 and 4 were the worst. By week 5, I felt like a million bucks. Give it some time.

I will add that if you are being protective of your ab area, you might be over-compensating with other (previously under-used) muscles, and that could be causing the soreness. If I had to do it all over again, I would have been doing all sorts of ab exercises a year prior (let's all LOL now...).

Anyway, give it a week. I had *huge* soreness in my sides and back, just because I was protecting my incision/belly area and relying upon under-used muscles. Just like you, I was not over-doing anything.

So, take some ibuprofen or something, if you can, and check in with us soon.

best wishes, carolyn
