insurance approval

I just found out that my insurance approved my surgery after the endometrial biopsy results were normal. Now i need to pick a new surgery date. The question I have is what amount of time after a TAH should I plan before I am comfortable dealing with issues like getting kids ready for school and homework. Should I plan to have the surgery about 2 weeks before school starts back or wait until a couple of weeks after school starts back. I have 3 children who will be at 2 different schools next school year. Any advice?
Thanks!
Jody

Well, this depends in part on how old the children are (in other words, how much help they really need getting ready in the morning) and whether or not you have any additional help around the house (husband, partner, or if someone's going to come stay with you for a while to help).

In a way, I think it might be easier to plan the surgery during the school year so you'll have most of the day free to rest, but that's just me.

I hope others will come through and tell you what their experiences were....

Hi, Jody!

I'll tell you that I was planning to wait until next school year as well, but Flo has changed my plans. AND on further thought, we decided this was the best way to go.

Here's why: The kids might be gone during the day, but when they get home there's going to be homework to do and places to go - we can't drive for a bit after our hysters, correct? Mine are 6, 8, 10. Old enough that I can tell them to go away and leave me alone if I have to. If I feel like crap at the end of the day, I don't have to worry about doing spelling words and math facts, you know?

My new surgery date (as of today!) is June 6th. The Monday before they get out of school on Wednesday. That way I don't have to worry about having child care the entire day while I'm in the hospital.

Good luck with your decision!

Jo

My children are 13, 13, and almost 15. My husband will be available to help too, but I was really worried about the whole school thing, especially after school with getting assignments done etc. I think it would be easier on everyone if I had the worst out of the way before we start back to school. My daughter will be a big help too. I think my new date will be July 21. Thanks for the advice. Any other tips will be greatly appreciated!
