muscle atrophy post-surgery

During surgery (under epidural), I experienced lot of scraping in lower left pelvic area. On my return home from surgery, I had a tremendous weakness in lower left pelvic area, difficulty climbing stairs. Recovered. Following year had an attack in lower left pelvic area, recovered. Five years later, started developing ankle weakness, knee buckling, knee hyperextension, iliopsoa, quad, calf muscle atrophy, all on left side. Recently read that symptoms can be due to femoral nerve problem (and recently learned I have residual femoral neuropathy, not neurogenic) which can be caused by self-retaining retractors during surgery (which I know were used). Since symptoms took years to develop, cause has not been "established". Been to over 20 doctors, have had much physical therapy and home exercise, and many MRIs for brain and spine for past 11 years. Anyone out there had similar problem/experience? I hate what's happened to my life. No one can zero in on my problem.

Oh ((((Cindy))))) I'm so sorry you've had such a hard time since your hyst Having a diagnosistic is hopefully the beginning towards recovering

I've never delt with femoral nerve problems, so can't offer much insight. However, if you use our "Search" function with the keywords "femoral nerve", you'll find several threads dealing with the issue. Just Click Here to get to the Search Engine.

I've also done a Search on Google on the same thing and found a few websites dealing with both Femoral Nerve Dysfunction and Femoral Neuropathy. I'm assuming you've already tried that path, but it may be worth your while to try your luck again.

One thing, since knowing the cause may be important in order to obtain the right treatment, I find that it's always best to bring along any documentation validating your claim.

Sending lots of s your way and hoping that you find relief soon. Please, do keep us posted.
