Estrace and contact lenses

Almost 9 yrs. after my complete hysterectomy at age 39 (ovaries removed also) I realized that I needed to do something about vaginal atrophy (after the problem progressively got worse for about the past 2 years). I have now been on Estrace vaginal cream for 2 weeks (1 applicator full 2 times per week). It is helping with the vaginal pain, but I seem to be having some vision is a little blurry and my contact lens are not comfortable, so much so that I have just about quit wearing them. I think I remember having this problem when I was pregnant (last time was 26 yrs. ago). It is annoying, but my I am mostly interested to know if anyone can tell me if this would be indicative of anything serious. My doc said he didn't think this side-effect was possible from Estrace, but the patient info in the prescription packet says that it is. If you have had this type side-effect or have any further information about it, I would appreciate your help.

Estrace and contact lenses

Hi jenniferdarling

I do not wear contact lenses so I am not sure the connection with hormones. I did find this information on Estrace vaginal cream.

In tiny print at the bottom is says "intolerance to contact lenses"

This is a list of Estrace side effects but this is for the pill form and not the vaginal cream. The creams are for the most part suppose to stay in the vaginal walls. Only a very small amount goes in your system.

Estrace side effects

If you wear contact lenses and notice visual changes, or if the lenses begin to feel uncomfortable, consult your eye care specialist or health care professional.
Sorry to not be of more help. Hopefully someone with some personal experience will come by to share with you.
