going for TAH do I have to have bowel prep?

I'm still 2 months of TAH surgery ...um do I have to do bowel prep to? They havent really told me much I was just so excited that the surgery was coming and it'll get rid of all the pain and get me back to normal I didnt think of much else. They still have to send me out the papers for the anaethatis (hmm i spelt that wrong) visit but the papers for blood transfusion and surgery have been signed. My surgery is on thursday but they want to admit me wednesday so will that bowel prep happen at the hospital? And is there anything else that goes into the prep side of it?

Some patients are required to do a bowel prep and some are not. Your doctor will instruct you on this when the time draws nearer.

Your doctor is the one that has to answer that question. Some doctors require a prep and some don't, it doesn't seem to matter what kind of surgery you're having. It's more the doctor's choice. Even the preps themselves vary widely to eating lightly for 3 days to enemas or drinking some nasty stuff.

Most of the prep is done the night before. If you're going into the hospital the night before then they'll probably take care of everything at that time. I don't know how things work in New Zealand.

Just for the record, I had a TAH and had to do an enema, a douche and had to wash my entire body with some anti-bacterial soap. From what I've read, the enema was a lot easier than the drink.

I agree that your doctor will tell you ahead of time, or your consultant in pre-op. I didn't have one. They only told me not to eat anything after midnight on the night before. However, they will ask when you had your last bowel movement. Since I had one before I went in, my situation was okay.
