Post-Op care

Goodmorning Sisters,

I have concernes about post-op care upon returning home from the hospital. Being that I have moved away from home, I have very little support for after the surgery. My Mother can stay for 2 or 3 days after I return home, but she then has to return to Houston(about 3hrs away). She has suggested that I return home with her to recover, but I have a friend that has had the surgery said that there is no way I could make the trip.
My daughter is 12 and claims that she can handle taking care of me. This is a very sweet thought, but seeing how she stays on the phone 20 hours a day, I'm not sure where she will find the time. Will I really need a caretaker after the surgery? Also,
how long is the usual stay in the hospital(have not been to my pre-op appt. yet)?

Post-Op care

Hi, I had a tah/bso about 3 years ago. There's no way I could have handled a 3 hour trip at 2 few days post op. Plus, then you would be 3 hours away from your dr shouild you need him/her.

I was not bedridden after my surgery - in fact I was gotten up and sent to the shower the morning after. After that, I walked as much as possible. That helped me get my strength back and get rid of the nasty old gas

Your DD should be able to help you, what you'll need most is someone to make sure that you get your meds and that you eat. She could always call for extra help if needed . You'll have some restrictions, your dr should give you a list of what you can & can't do.

I was in the hospital for 3 1/2 days. 2 had been expected but I had a bad reaction to morphine. The norm seems to be 2 -3 .

Best wishes.

Post-Op care

I was in the hospital for 3 days. When I came home, I sent my DH back to work and my 82 year old mother helped me as much as she could. I cleaned my house real good before surgery so I wouldn't have to worry. I spent a lot of time on the computer and the couch. I bought easy to fix meals; sandwiches, hot dogs, chips, etc. Your daughter will be fine and I think that is all you will need. Just as long as you have someone there to assist you. I'll be praying for you. You will be fine.
