vision problems & food dislikes

I'm reading a lot of us are having the vision problem. Does anyone know why that is? I could barley see last week & the Dr said it was the med's she put me on to help my bladder. The blurred vision stopped when I stopped taking the med's but now when I try to read I can barley see it, if it's small print. I don't have blurred vision I just can't read small print anymore. Before my eyes were perfect I could read very small print.
I use to love chocolate & peanut butter but now it almost makes me throw up to eat it. Guess it's good not to like choc. don't need the extra weight.
It's really weird how your taste buds change over this surgery.
But I just don't understand why the vision problems?

vision problems & food dislikes

Hi,
I can't say much about the vision, except maybe if it was due to hormonal changes. I have heard about that before, but I really don't know why. As for the food dislikes/likes..there have been posts here before about this and I agree, it's true but strange, isn't it?!?! I wonder why that is also. I have never been a big meat eater, was a total vegetarian for awhile, and now it seems like, once again, eating meat is really grossing me out!!! I can't seem to stand it in my mouth!!! Which is ok, because I love tofu, veggies, beans, etc... but it is wierd how it 'sickens' me now!!!! Best to you in recovery and I hope things work out with your vision!!!:eyes: Take care, zanylynn

I also can't say much about the vision, I already wore reading glasses, and when I'm tired I need stronger ones.
The food thing I can really relate to. I don't really like coffee anymore and I used to live on diet Mt. Dew, which doesn't taste the same. I haven't found any soda that really tastes good anymore. Iced tea tastes funny, different somehow. I adore seafood and when we went on vacation, the smell at all the restaurants made me queasy. And of all things, chocolate doesn't taste as good as it used to. I've heard that it's from the anesthesia, so I guess it will go away eventually.

I found out that my blurry vision is due to low iron in my bone marrow. Nothing to do but wait it out and hope the levels come up and SOON! That and I need to try and tolerate the iron. Blech. Sock me in the stomach now, please.

When it comes to food -- I'm the same way. There are certain foods or drinks that I would LOVE before surgery. Now, they absolutely disqust me. I don't get it. This is almost like having morning sickness in reverse.

I just feel like my body has been replaced with someone else's and it's just a weird feeling.

But, I'm not bleeding anymore!

vision problems & food dislikes

Hi,
I had a SAH two and a half weeks ago. I have lost weight as well. It seems like I no longer have an appetite for the foods that I loved before the operation. I have always been a chocoholic and now I may even go without having any chocolate in a day. I haven't had one diet soda since before the surgery. I am just drinking water. I also don't have the salt cravings. I keep on wondering if my doctor did a gastric bypass while she was operating.
I also believe that I have already lost some muscle mass since I haven't done anything except for walking since the surgery. I am not happy about that.
Yet, even though the scale shows the loss of 6 lbs. which is alot for me, I still have a hard time looking at my swelly belly. I turn sideways and I see this marsupial pouch which disturbs me. Yet, it is probably still swollen.

Take care.

My food tastes changed after surgery too. This is something I'd never heard of or thought of as a possible effect of the surgery. It DOES feel like I have someone else's body most days! I loved chocolate and hot tea for years before the surgery. Now I can't stand either one! My surgery was 2 months ago, so for me I don't think it was the anesthesia cause the effects of that should have worn off at least a month ago. My doc says it's probably the hormonal changes...kind of like when you have cravings or taste changes during pregnancy. He said it might be permanent, and might not. I had ovaries removed and am on a low dose of HRT. Oh well, I can stand to lose at least 20 lbs so maybe my dislike of chocolate is a good thing! Cindy in CA

Thanks everyone for your reply's. This site has been such a blessing. I don't know what I would have done w/o having being able to talk to all you wonderful sisters out there. I try talking to my DR but they just don't seem to understand when I say I feel like I can't think very well & forget things now. And can't read small print.
It's kind of hard for me now since I had two surgeons. My GYN tells me when I complained about the bladder pressure that she doesn't see anything wrong with it & what I'm feeling is the tightness in my belly from the other surgeon that did the tummy tuck.
Then when I see the plastic surgeon & tell him that he said, I been doing this for yrs & never heard a woman complain about her bladder after giving her a tummy tuck.
So I'm glad to read other woman had or have the same bladder problems & knowing this will pass with time.
This site sure helps my days go by a lot faster. I also worry about bone lost now, since the only exercise I get is walking but it's still hard with the pressure I feel down there. Yesterday I walked a mile & then actually went shopping. So I did a lot of walking but I sure felt it last night. Guess it was good because I actually slept thru the hole night & didn't get up like I normally do 3 times to go to the potty. When I woke up this morning I had to make sure the bed wasn't wet....lol WooHoo guess those Detrol pills have kicked in. I actually fell really great this morning

My vision doesn't seem as good either. I wear glasses all the time, but now things seem blurry. Also the same about food. I used to love Earl Grey tea, now it is just not the same, also coffee doesn't seem to have any taste. I have also gone off chocolate which is probably a good thing, but I did love it so. Luckily not gone off fruit, keeping the local supermarket going as every other day DH has to go and buy a fresh supply.

Oh, wow. I am SO GLAD I stumbled upon this thread. I know I'm only 10 days out from surgery but all my food tastes different now! I hate that. Even water is tasting so weird to me. I need to drink plenty of it because I'm on some medications for infection and headache and stuff, but it's dang hard to do when it all tastes just nasty. I haven't hit on any particular food that is good any more and it's kinda depressing. I also lost a lot of blood with my TVH so I'm trying to deal with anemia and eating well and getting strength back and all that. Anyone with any good suggestions in that department, please send them on to me! I have already leanred from this thread that the anemia can be causing my blurry vision as well as any one of 4 of the meds + 6 other supplements I am currently on. I just want to be normal again and I know it's WAY too early to even think about being there. Hugs to each of you for posting this great info!

My vision is funny too. I used to be able to handle the speed of the scroll button... but not anymore I become dizzy for just a second or two. I have to remember to slow it down when on the computer...

Food has been funny as well... I used to love pepsi..now I can't drink one.... fresh fruit was not my favorite..yet it is all I seem to want....

And eating a full meal in one sitting is out of the question... I am lucky if I can eat 1/4 of a meal in one sitting....Today daughter is making me scrabbled eggs and toast ..Hopefully I can stomach those...

I think my pain med is having something to do with my stomach issues... about 30 minutes prior to the next dose I begin to feel a bit nauseus... So that may have something to do with it too....

I think the best thing we all can do on this issue is listen to our bodies and do as they request. Which is what I have been doing and finding it works pretty well... I eat a small snach 30 minutes before med time... slow the scroll .... and things are fine.

Ces.
