Adhesions/keloid questions surgery tomorrow

Hi ladies,

I am scheduled for surgery tomorrow and wanted to know if any of you had keloids before surgery and that ended up being the cause of problems during or after surgery.

Thanks in advance.

Hi (((Tracy))), I do not have any input for you as I've never delt with keloids. However, I did want to suggest that you run a "search" on the term keloid, as I remember this issue being discussed before. Hopefully, you'll find some information you'll be able to use.

Best of luck with your surgery: your Hyster Sisters will be there with you and all others going to the castle.

My doctor and I discussed my tendency to keloid before surgery. This was not an issue for her because of adhesions (I'd never had any abdominal surgery, so there's no way of telling about my propensity for adhesions).

It did mean that she did a plastic-surgery style closure on my incision (no external stitches) to reduce the scar. It's healed over very nicely with only a few spots showing keloiding.

I've also seen some reports that link keloids with a tendency towards fibroid tumors.

There is a membrane or some sort of steroid spray they can use at the time of surgery within the abdomen to reduce the likelihood of developing adhesions.

Take care.

It may be too late to reply to this, but I get nasty keloids. My doctor injected my incision with Kenalog while he sewed me up and so far my scar is looking pretty good.
