Bladder Spasms

Ok ladies, gotta question. I'm 3 wks post op, and on my 2nd round of antibiotics for a UTI (I'm the idiot that traveled 365 miles by van a week post op so that my mom could take care of me) been on 2 types of pain meds, and now I'm on AZO. Could the spasms be from the surgery, or are they from the UTI, and if so, I was told to go BACK to the doctor. Well, I'm wondering just how much the doc can do bc the actual doc that did the surgery is in Houston, and I'm in LA. Since the doc here doesn't know my history or anything, all I can give him is the pathology report, what can he really do? Plus, the right side hurts way more than the left, I kept both ovaries. I'm still on my pain meds, but only if I do too much during the day and really need one at night. I'm take 3 advil during the day, plus the AVO, plus the antibiotic, not to mention my seizure meds, but thankfully seizure free!! When will this go away, or is it the UTI? Any input would be great! Nevermind, my doctor JUST called, they got the results from my culture. He said that I'm sensitive to the Macrabid I was on and the Bactrim I'm currently on, so that's why I'm not getting any better. So he prescribed yet another antibiotic - don't remember the name, starts with a C - so hopefully this one will work.

Bladder Spasms

I sure hope this clears up for you soon. I am about 3 1/2 weeks post op and still have bladder spasms. My urine was clear, so they said it was just my bladder being irritated by the surgery nad having the foley in afterwards.

Feel better, hon!

Was the name of it CIPRO....because that seems to work really well, DR's usual give that for pesistant cases. You might want to check into DR to make sure it has not turned into kidney infection. Sometimes your Ureters (carries urine from kidneys to bladder) can get very irratated and cause spasms. Most likely is caused by surgery and infection....but on Cipro showed stop soon. There is med the DR can give for spasms....could ask.

Bladder Spasms

I know how you feel, my pain is all on the right side too, I also went home with a foley cath. and the doctor said the spasms were a good thing because it meant that my bladder was finally waking up, now I am not sure as it has been a week and a half since I got the cath. out and a week since I have taken my last antibiotic. I will give it a little while longer and see, I have an appointment next week. I hope your new antibiotic helps you feel better soon!!

Are they sure it's a UTI?

I really feel for you. I too had a UTI after my hyster from the foley. I think the antibiotic they have you on is Cipro, that's the usual one, although I've heard Levaquin is actually better. I'm having the bladder spasms too, the urologist thinks it's either cystitis or from the surgery. There are meds they can give you for it though, I was just put on Detrol and am waiting for it to kick in. I'm sure they can give you something.

Sending you a hug and I hope you feel better if only to know you're not alone.

I'm on my 2nd antibiotic for a UTI too. My mom said the best thing for an iritated bladder is drinking tons of water and I do find it helps.

Check out this site It contains information on Intercystitial Cystitis. I have it and mine is under control with a medication called Elmiron. The medication is very expensive but if you have insurance it isn't to bad. Intercystitial Cystitis is an inflammation of the bladder. This often times occurs after a recent surgery. When you are having a hysterectomy the surgery is close to the bladder and can cause irritation to it. The doctors always think that you will have a UTI infection but the test always come back negative. Antibodics don't help. There is also an over the counter medication that you can try it is by the mylanta and maalox products it is called Previl. It is made for people that have bladder problems (Intercystitial Cystitis)
Check out the site I think that you will find some very helpful information on there. Best of luck to you!
