General pre-op ??s

Ok, so I scheduled my LAVH for 8-3-05
Taking everything, ovaries, cervix and uterus.

My ?? are how much vaginal pain is there?
I have had 2 abdominal surgeries in past and recovered easily from them, I just don't like vaginal pain in the least.

What are restrictions for
Swimming
Lifting, have a 25 lb 2 yr old
Sex

when do you get started on hormones?

Will having a tipped uterus make a vaginal approach harder??

Thanks
SLE
age 42
early menopause started at 33, full at 40
Enlarged and painful ovary
fibroids
family history of uterine and ovarian cancer

These are good questions. You will have some vaginal pain, that was my biggest complaint; however, saying that I also stopped taking my pain meds 3 days post op. That does explain why I felt the vaginal pain, the pain meds does make the vaginal pain sooo managable. The vaginal pain subsides week by week until one day you just notice you don't feel it anymore!
I am 5 weeks post op, Dr. took uterus and cervix and for that his restrictions on me were:
No Swimming and No Sex (nothing in vagina) until vaginal cuff is healed. And no lifting anything over 10 lbs. You can't do any of these things until your Dr. clears you, usually at your 6 week check up. No Swimming and No Sex is so you don't introduce any bateria into your vagina that can cause infection, and the weight restrictions is so you don't pop yourself internally and cause hemmoraging.

As for intimacy.....my Dr. said I could have all the outercourse I wanted. My DH gave me a climax by hand one week post op and we haven't stopped since. My Dr. okayed me yesterday for oral sex, but because I have been bleeding for 5 weeks I will stay away from that. Toys are okay also as long as they aren't put into the vagina.

Take care!!
