visiting OR room again,

Hi **! Hi **! it's off to the OR I go....again.

I saw the surgen, I think I like him, but not to sure of his "I'm only fixing the gallbladder" attitude. He has a wonderful bedside manner and had me laughing most of our consultation, but he seemed pretty closed when I tried to find out if he found something else, would he fix it.

The trans-vaginal and pelvic ultra sound both came back showing nothing. Go figure.... after the reactions I had in techs room??? The gallbladder still hurts of course and I've been basically on a liquid diet for a month now, as I can't hold anything on my tummy. I sleep in a sitting up position at night every night now and for the first time am looking foward to having this thing taken out.

However, I'm still having concerns about what is going on on the left side....I know it's probably adhesions, but when I asked the surgen if he would do a lysis if they were bad, he made that comment about only the gallbladder. I asked if he would/could use an adhesion barrier as it helped so much the last sugery and got a blank stare. He says all the swelling in my tummy is due to the gallbladder but can't explain the swelling in my hands and feet and face. All my blood work is normal. My cholestoral (sp) us a little high and doc put me on Lipitor due to the heart attack history in my family. Primary doc wants to do a colonoscopy...wouldn't it make more sense to do that before surgery? And can't the surgen just take a look see while he's in there? and then fix it if something is there? I just don't understand these people sometimes.

Surgen says I'll be down a min of three weeks as he doesn't think he's going to be able to do the lap. Says there is the problem with the hernia repair and the probability of the adhesions. ( he knows they are there but won't fix some of them? go figure) So, it looks like I'll have a nasty scar on my right side now....sheesh...belly is starting to look like a map of Texas!!!

Hi ** Hi ** 5 since hyst to go!!

visiting OR room again,

Good luck Dawn! I hope the surgery is successful and you will soon be feeling much better. As for the left sided pain, have you ever heard of something called "referred pain"? That is, where we feel the pain is not necessarily where the pain is radiating from. It just might be your gallbladder causing it.

My experience with doctors is that they do not like to go poking around just because they are in there and I've had many additional surgeries since the hyst. To us, it may seem like an easy thing to do, but in reality surgery isn't anything to take lightly and I think perhaps the more poking around they do, the more risk for complications.

Hi Dawn,

How was the Pre-op appointment. When do you get to start your little drink? Is everything all set for Wednesday. I had my pre-op last tuesday and went prepared with the list of 25 forbidden drugs and a full page of surgeries. My drs all hate to see me coming. I did have to have blood work but that was it. If you get anxious or anything PM me and I will keep you company. I don't sleep so I will be there for ya. Take care! s

visiting OR room again,

Awwwwww thanks girls!!!

I had an awful interview via phone with the surgeon today.....i almost canceled surgery

I had asked about adhesion barriers and got "I don't use those" and "you can talk to the surgeon before surgery if you like" even after I told the phone lady it takes two days to order it.

I don't have to have a cleansing???????? I had asked the pre op nurse if I needed an enema or 'go lightley" and she said it wasn't in my orders to call the I did....he said I didn't need one??????? I have never heard of such a thing.... Oh MY!!! Anyone else hear of this?

I have awful considerations for this surgery and want to cancel.....I just don't know what to do. DH is in NH till tomorrow and you just can't talk about these things on the phone...then they had me this new paperwork about Florida Advance Directives since the Teri Schiviao (sp) case and that has me in a whirlwind....PLUS I'm trying to close on the house I'm selling before surgery and THAT is driving me nuts....

Sheesh...I'm a basket case...what do I do? At the last min I'm not happy with my surgeon!!!!!

visiting OR room again,

First of all..The advance directives are pretty common now days even before the Terry Schaivo case. I have had to fill one out everytime I have had to have surgery in the last year and a half and this will be surgery #8. I now have one completed and notarized and take it with me. I learned from my mom you need to make it legal. She was a DNR and they didn't abide by it. (she was terminal with 3 diff. types of cancer and was dieing when they recessitated her. Not a good time, only let her suffer another week).

You should be very happy you don't have to do the whole go lightley. I have had to do it twice and only for colonoscopies and never for any surgeries.

DON"T cancel your surgery, you will only regret it. CALL the surgeon and get your questions answered and ask him personally about the barriers. I will check with you tomorrow! Things will be better when DH gets home. You are just nervous and frazzled with all that is going on. When do you close??? Is it a done deal and have you already moved?

Now take a deep breath, Are you a member of a gym or anyplace that has a hot tub? If so, get there find the hot tub or steam room and just try and relax. Margaritas are always good and even a glass of wine. My drs have always recommended to me to have something to calm my nerves. I don't drink but the wine was good! Good luck sweetie and PM me if you want. Like i said I am here for you and I don't sleep. Hang in there okay. s are coming your way.

visiting OR room again,

I'm so sorry you aren't feeling more at ease. Only you can know for sure if this is a case of preop nerves or if your instinct is really trying to tell you something. Wish I had the answer for you, dear.

If you feel that what your surgeon is telling you is not reaonable, why not get a 2nd opinion? Unless your gallbladder surgery is an emergency, you could consider delaying until you are sure. Then again, it might just make sense to have another in person appt with the surgeon, voice your concerns and see what happens. All I am saying is search your heart, think what about what you want and how you might put your mind at ease.
