Rectocele #2 (no it's not a pun)

Hi Peggy & Donna,

Well, I had the manometry on Tues. and the surgeon said that that looked good. So that's a good sign. I have the defecography on 8/1. My appointment to discuss everything isn't until 8/24 due to waiting for results plus he's off on vacation.
No, it isn't fair that as women, our insides keep trying to escape to the outside (among other things). But in the great scheme of things, I am grateful that that's all my problems is.

Take care,

Hi Donna
You said your defecodraphy is Aug 1st? The colon rectal surgeon's office keeps telling me that they haven't recieived any replacement barrium for the type that was recalled. I feel like I may have to wait for months and don't think my bowels can last that long. I now have terrible stabbing pains in my abdoman from straining to go. I see my uro/gyn on the 3rd for surgical consultation for possible cystocele and stress incontinence repair. I may very well have adhesions fixed at that time. I was hoping to get this bowel issue repaired then too if necessary. Did your dr. tell you there had been a recall on the barium?
Let us know what your dr. says.

Sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I had the defecography this morning at the hospital where I work. They are well stocked with barium. Does your MD do the test at his office? I wonder if hospitals have an easier time of getting the replacement, than the MDs do.

The test was not as embarrassing as I imagined it would be thanks to the techs & radiologist. The most uncomfortable part was laying flat for a "scout" film before they inserted the barium. I have had problems with my lower back for years and thankfully, while I had little twinges of pain, it did not result in a spasm or anything that affected my "performance" during the test. I could watch the whole thing on the monitor, so that was kinda cool.

Let me know how your visit to the urogynecologist goes.

Hi Donna
I am glad you had your defecography. I had one back in Dec. and I didn't find it all that bad either. They showed me right then that I had a rectocele and enterocele. Did they show you anything?
I know the barium was recalled sometime since I had my test. I wonder why it was recalled and what about us who had it done with the old barium? Yikes!!My defecography was done in the radiology dept. at the hospital, which is where this one will be done. I have no idea as to why it is taking them so long to get the new barium.
I hope you get your answers at your follow up. I will have some answers as far as bladder issues when I see the uro/gyn, but what worries me most is the bm issues. Waiting for that test is the worst.
Good luck

Hello! I'm new and found your site. I'm so thankful that I found this site. I feel like it's family. I'm sorry to hear how you guys are suffering but I'm in the same boat. I started taking miralax in mar. and it's ok but some weird things are going on. Did the miralax not work for you? How long have you been taking it. I feel sometimes like I may have take enemas the rest of life. Everything else is working at the moment. Thanks! for listening.
