BSO - when did symptons start for you?

Hello Ladies,
I'm six weeks post op from TAH/BSO. So far, I don't think I have had any menopause symtoms. I broke out in a sweat at work today (with a/c blasting), but I'm not sure if it was a hot flast or extreme stress from a pile of closing files I was handed for settlements tomorrow. When did you start feeling the symptoms of menopause? Is it odd that at six weeks I really have'nt? I appreciate anyone's input. I go to the DR Monday for my six week post op check up and don't know whether I should ask for HRT or not.

Thanks!

Jean

BSO - when did symptons start for you?

It was about a week post hyst when I had my first Hot flash---- WOW!!!
You may not have any symptoms, some people are not bothered by the hot flashes and sweats and extreme mood changes, every one is different, and just thank your lucky stars that you havent had to deal with it---LOL
I know that for several weeks after a hyst we have estrogen stores in our body, maybe you are still running on those...
You doc may suggest HRT, but if your not having symptoms- you may not need it other than the protection it gives your bones....

BSO - when did symptons start for you?

I was perimenopausal (having night sweats) before my TVH/BSO, so I had a huge hot flash almost as soon as they got me into my room at the castle after the surgery (they'd forgotten to put on the patch in the recovery room).

Even if you're having no symptoms, you might want to have a baseline DEXA (bone density) scan and then another one in a year or two; even in the absence of symptoms, bone loss in the first year or two after surgery can be quite substantial.

-Linda

BSO - when did symptons start for you?

I had my TAH/BSO on the Friday and my symptoms started on the Monday. Surely after all this time you aren't going to have many symptoms. Let's hope so...

BSO - when did symptons start for you?

I was perimenopausal before my surgery 3 months ago. I woke up in the recovery room in a full blown hot flash!! It was awful but, we are all different, so who knows.

BSO - when did symptons start for you?

Jean,
I think the hot flashes started for me at about a week or two weeks post op. I didn't realize it at the time, I just kept turning the a/c down. When dh came down in a sweater I figured something was up.

We are all different and not everyone will have the same experience. So no, it's really not unusual not to have symptoms.

BSO - when did symptons start for you?

Jean,
I had my surgery the same day as you and I was having no symptoms at all the first 4 weeks. Then....after that, things started getting worse. Finally, I went to my gyn asking for HRT. I have not started the HRT cream yet, as I have another surgery next Friday and did not want to take any chances being on hormones and having orthopedic surgery. Right now, the night sweats and mood swings are the worst symptoms for me. I do also get frequent headaches. I intend to start the HRT as soon as I am up and mobile. I did not have a 6 week post op appt., but do have my annual exam in August. My gyn intends to have me try this cream for 3 months and then do a second saliva test to see where my hormone levels are at (my first saliva test was at 2 weeks post-op). I think my body has used up its supply of estrogen.....which is why I may be experiencing menopause symptoms so many weeks after the surgery. Just my guess!

BSO - when did symptons start for you?

Hi all,
Well, I don't know when they started, but am in full swing with them now!!! Had TAH with BSO on 6-28...I am 40, and feel awful!!! Have not been able to take the premarin, am going to hopefully give bio-identicals a shot...I am nauseated to the point I cannot eat, and I am already underweight, swelly belly bad...anxiety, mood swings, hot then cold chills, insomnia, WHINING...haha...anyways, thanks for listening and I will check in soon, I hope. This is the first day I have felt like getting on-line...When I saw my Dr. on 2 week check up she said I had overdone it and had better start resting more...Dear hubby was there to tell on me...So now I am resting more, but it is easier cuz I feel so crappy...sorry for the whining...
Take Care and God Bless,
Kandy

BSO - when did symptons start for you?

I had my TAH w/ BSO on 5/27, and had SEVERE hot flashes in just over a week. Doctor asked me if I wanted them at one week, and I said no, I feel fine! Well, her parting words to the DH were if he reaches the point where he's considering homicide, call her. He didn't have to, I did! After 4 weeks of HRT, all is even and good again!
